What can I do to increase HP???

Hey,

What are some things I can do to increase my HP? I know my car came stock with 140. I thought about adding headers, but will it hurt the life of the engine? I heard the v-6 weren't one of the better engines GM made in 1990...... I would like to get around 250-350 hp (yeah, I know it's a huge difference) If I can't get that much, I'm considering putting a 350 vortec in. Is this a good or bad idea? Would it be cheaper just to buy an IROC or a Z-28??? Oh yeah, What do 4th gen seats retail for?? Cloth? Leather? Thanks a lot guys....

From 140 to 250 is quite a bit from a third gen V6, I'm sure it could be done, but in the end it would probably cost you the same, if not less to buy an IROC or a Z-28 like you said(However, if you do decide to keep the ole sixer, just start searching the archives, and you'll find plenty of ideas for things to do to give her a bit more power). Oh yea, same holds true for the V8 swap into your car, just buy what you want and save yourself the hassles. Then, if you want, you can mod that IROC or Z-28 and really push out the HP

WELL, TO MESS WITH HORSE THE BASE STARTING POINT IS EXAUST. go with cat-back or flowmaster if you like sound. Try platnum plugs, k&n air (i'll warn ya, there is a reason why there is more unrestricted air flow, doesn't filter as good), cold or ram air, compression, etc. It isn't all about gaining HP but how you use it. think trans in my opinion. some guy could have 200hp but if u have 140 or 160hp and u use it better you stand a good chance of keeping up or beating him.

First off, who told you the V-6 was not one of the better engines. I is hard to find one that died before 150000 miles...

The V-6 is an excellent engine as far as design, just not in HP.

For HP it depends on how far you want to go into the engine. If you want 250-350 go get the Vortec; I am not going to lie about this, if you want that from a 3.1, your going to pout $$$ into it, way too much you might as well go get teh 5.7 now. And if you decide to go buy a TPI car, don;t bother swaping not worth it unless your car is mint...

If you want to go from 140-215 yes we can help you out.

Or drop in a 3.4 and start with 160HP everything bolts up, you don't need to upgrade the transmission either. The mod it.

Remember too, if you plan on puting a 350 in you need a new transmission, should get new springs for the front, Radiator, exhaust, wireing harness, etc.

    how can u incress hp??

    1. drop in a v8.. too costly for most of us. plus its cheaper to just buy a v8 f-body usually.

    2. drop in a 3.4.. cheaper than a v8 swap. most expensive 60* v6 swap u can do, but it also performs the best of any 60* v6.

    3. rebuild ur current engine.. depending on what specs u plan on rebuilding it to, 3.4 swap will probably be cheaper.

    4. the usual highly talked about: ram air, cam, exhaust, less weight, ect.. exhaust and intake are the best places to start with this. u could self fab a ram air fairly cheap. u wont get much off the line increase with this, but ull defiently see a diff when goin to pass someone.

Oh really? Take a walk thru the salvage yard, note how many fiero's have "bad motor" "blown motor" "thrown rod" written on the windshield. Almost every Fiero 2.8 blows up before it hits 100,000 miles. A buddy of mine has a stack of blown 2.8's sitting in his shop. Usually the rods go... thru the block they go...

60* V6's can go 200,000+ miles or they can go 60,000 miles... its all in how they're cared for and luck.

Drew is totally right about the 2.8 in camaros lasting that long . I got 170k miles out of mine . Would have gotten more if I would have taken a little bit better care of it . They have a guy on the board , dont remember his screen name but he has like 300 and something thousand on the original motor and it runs well .
