V-6 sizes....
Hey,
What's the biggest V-6 on the market? If I were to put a V-6 from a 4th gen in my car, would I have the stock hp? (205...I think) or, would it be about the same price to put a 350 in??

ur goin to get more cheaper horsepower from a 350 then u can a v6. now with that said, its ALOT cheaper to use a 60* v6 (2.8-3.1-3.4) a turbo 3.4 will make bout the same power as a stock-slighty modded 350 with alot better gas milage and cheaper insurance. with that all u need, as far as i know, is the 3.4 long block, turbo, and a new tranny would be a good idea with that setup. if u goto a 90* v6 (3.8-4.3) or a v8 ull need to replace EVERYTHING. if i had the money i would have done a v8 swap into my '83. but after i looked into it and found i needed to replace alot of stuff that worked on my car, i decided it wasnt worth it. if u have smog where u live, ull have to take that into consideration too. i hope this helps. if im wrong on anything i hope someone on here with more experience than me will correct me.

the biggest chevy v6 i know of is a 4.3 (i could be wrong on that).
the fourth gens used 2 different v6s. 3.4 bout 160 hp(60*, direct replacement in a 3rd gen) and 3.8 bout 200 hp(90* buick engine, bout the same cost as doin a 350 swap)

if we did turbo a 3.4 wouldnt we need to LOWER its compression???
i believe it has 9.1:1 compression which would be rather high for a turbo or supercharger
please correct me if i am wrong

You can run 9:1 compression, you could even run 13:1 compression. The problem is when you raise mechanical compression you have to lower boost psi. (not that the following #'s are correct but they are an example) If you were to lower the ratio down to 7.5:1 you can easily run 12 psi of boost, with 9:1 you could only run 9 psi. Since boost is where your getting your power you want lower mechanical compression but you don't have to have it.

i dont remember where i say this, it was like 1-2 years ago tho. the some turbo that was made for the 3.8 in 4gen f-bodies had an adaptor to work on 3.4 4gen fbodies. im ASSUMING that u could use this setup with a 3.4 in a 3rd gen f-body. i am goin to look up info on this and post what i find out.

I am currently working on putting a turbo into my car, but am saviving up for the 3.4 first. I am thinking of porting the 2.8 heads to lower compression I experiment.
