doin new exhuast...defiantly hooker...need help

my cat has gone on me and since i need to replace it, i am goin to do my exhuase too. please help on the following:

1. what size on '88 2.8 ? 2.25 or 2.5?

2. my cat is welded on the slip fit side, can i put on a new one by myself, beginer, or should i have pros do it?

3. at first i has thinking about getting a cat back, but the person who had it before put a new stock muffler (crap) on a couple years ago with a new intermediate pipe. I was thinking of putting a hooker aero chamber (PN# 520-21720 www.jegs.com $78) and new tailpipes (old ones are stock and look like ****, literaly) good idea?

4. dynomax super converter or catco? where to buy and how much? (direct fit from summit/jegs are more than i have seen in past posts, summit wants $92 for catco and jegs wants $88 for dyomax)

5. where do i get tailpipes? (at bare minimum i am only having a pro do the cat, i am doing the rest to save money, i have a haynes and you guys if i screw up)

6. where can i get a new hanger for by the cat, mine is broken and no junk yards around me will let me get something under the car or dont have any.

As far as the cat goes if you are going to replace the I pipe along with it you can do it your self. Other wise you need some way to cut the weld off.

When I changed my cat I had a problem getting off the car. The slip fit end came right off with no problems, but even the guys at the muffler shop couldn;t bang the ball and flang end off. It was on there for about 10 years and decided it liked being on the car. They had to cut it off with a saw.

Make sure you have plenty of time to do the job and that a muffler shop is open when you do it. Just incase you decide you are in over your head.

i think hooker exhaust seemed too quiet...
i am also looking at a cat back system, so far its dynomax, # WLK-17493 from summit, tomP recomeneded it, not shure i like the tips, but they can be replaced... the flow's got to be good because its dual muffler(i think) 2 Super Turbo mufflers
aluminized, mandrel bent 2 1/2 in. "system fits OEM mounting and hanger locations for easy installation."

now for a question i have, ok with the purchase of my cat back i want to get a high flow cc, i was looking for a Catco converters(said to flow beter and last longer that OEM cc's) the dynomax kit WLK-17493 says that it needs "All applications must have 2 1/2 in. flared connection to catalytic converter." can someone help me find a part number? + since my stock piping is 2.25(correct?) then i would need an adapter before the cc that makes it 2.25id to 2.5od????

TomP do you have this same cat back?

i dont like the sound of dyno and from what i heard hooker flows better than dyno (not sure tho) my cat was replaced a couple years ago as well, so i dont think that it will be hard to get off, i hope so, its the welded part i am afraid of touching
