I've had my bird for about 6 months now and i did all the major tune up stuff like plugs,wires,O2 sensor, fuel filter, coil, cap and rotar button and K&N. any thing i missed? i know my car can do better than 160 miles on a whole tank of gass. i also use the medium grade of gas by shell. The continuous trip to the gastation is killing me with the high gas prices. any suggestions? The car also has no leaks what so ever..

High gas prices when you start paying 0.699 a litre (3.78 per gallon) come complain.

Check tire pressure, make sure there all the same.
do you have a sticking brake? One sticky cylinder, or caliper can really cut back the fuel economy.
Leaky Exhaust?
IS the SES light on? A bad MAF can screw things up...

How about gas lines and tank, do you smell gas often? I got 19mpg once on a tank I was ticked cause I averaged 28 before and have seen 32-33, it turned out gas line under the brake mastercylinder, it was pissing gas out.

Hey joe it got to $.92 a litre here 90 km away were I go to collage it Was $.57/l the whole time.

But 86 bird, you may need your injectors purged. I've had that done to my Grand Am, and to my Tempest and it almost doubled the gas milage on both cars. It's a $40-$90 touch though. Check the sevice manual, I'd think it's supposed to be done as often as tranny oil change. Could be Just guessing.

If they're dirty the fuel won't atomize sufficently and cause the engine to run inefficently.

You can try the stuff you put in the gas tank but it doesn't compare to getting it done at a shop.

See ya

I've never really looked at my gas milage. Guess I should do that sometime

here's a low cost solution: get a 76 bonneville for $200 US. it has a 26 gallon tank. Driving from Minot ND to Knoxville, I got 400 miles to the tank before filling up, or around 18-20 mpg. not too much, but it's still 400 miles between fill ups. that was doing about 62-65 mph. have you replaced your charcoal cannister? the black cylinder thing in the engine bay? any gas line leaks?

Also try not to indulge your right foot as often

nice car graeme, but a pponcho would be better

WHOA! Gas was 94.9 a litre last winter, but us nova Scotians got a break so far this year. It just went back up like 10Cents a litre, *sigh* what can you do about it though... wine and compain I guess... Geez 92.9, I hope we don;t see this increase for again for a couple of years. Gas was as cheap this fall as when I first started driving in may 99...

Mileage? What's that? I have no idea of my mileage, either. Then again, I have no idea how much I pay for gas... I don't check anymore.

Did you do everything on my list for a Major tuneup? How's your tire pressure now that it's cold out? Are your front tires wearing evenly (not out of alignment), and you've got a lube job? You have an '86... ever check the TPS voltage at idle? It should be 0.55 volts, +/- 0.05 for a 2.8, at idle. What's your timing set to?
