3.1 Turbo powered Audi race car
3.1 Turbo powered Audi race car
Hey guys this is my first post here but I've been reading for years. I know this isn't a 3rd Gen but it is a 3.1 engine powered vehicle. I'm probably the only person in the world that would swap an Audi with a 60 degree v6.
Story is I bought this 96 Audi A4 from a guy with the cage 90 percent complete and no drivetrain last October to compete in local SCCA hill climb races. I went back and forth between a 350 swap or LS swap. Then this winter a friend gave me a 91 RS with a full 3.1 drivetrain. The plan was to build this car for my wife so out came the 3.1 and in went a 5.3. That project is waiting on a motor rebuild at the moment.
I was left with a full 3.1 and 700R4 trans so I put it in this Audi and I'm in the process of turbocharging it. This will **** off so many Audi guys. haha
Thanks for looking. I will be posting some pics of the hot side soon since its almost complete.

That looks like it will a fun build. People here have 3.1 turbos running <12s in the 1/4 in a heavy thirdgen You should be nice and fast when done

Yea I hope to be making roughly high 200's - 300 RWHP. It will be totally stock for next season then I plan on ripping it down next winter for some porting, bottom end work and cam.

Forget the porting, and go hybrid, AKA Frankenstein...
It uses FWD aluminum top end, which has MUCH better flow through it in stock form than any ported iron heads could dream to have.
Side note: Since this isn't third gen related I'm supposed to lock, and sometimes delete stuff like this. However, I'm going to let this one roll for now, but if I get any grief about it, I will have to then do what I'm supposed to.

Yes I've seen the aluminum Frankenstein head swap. Would definitely be something I'd be interested in.
If you have to delete you have to delete haha no hard feelings.

EBAY T3 turbo
Compressor - Trim Inducer Diameter Exducer Diameter A/R
55 50.5 mm 76 mm 0.5
Turbine - Trim Inducer Diameter Exducer Diameter A/R
73 65.5 mm 55.9 mm 0.63
I needed a turbo that would spool quickly out of tight radius corners especially because the whole race is up hill.

Hey guys update on the car. I am pretty much finished with the hot side piping. I'm just waiting on the oil supply and return lines now. Then I have to redo the engine harness and we should be good so a first start withing two weeks or so. After the first start I have to run the exhaust piping through the firewall and out the passenger door. Thanks for looking.

I think that is a mighty impressive plan. It will be interesting to see how it runs. Looking forward to it.

Very cool! Not sure where you are at but I have a 3.1l and 2x 700r4's sitting around. Located in Monroe, MI. I'll make them worth the trip! Haha
