30 Year old M.A.F sensor
So I keep getting code 34. Decided maybe cleaning it will help. I believe it's the original M.A.F. Says AC . Means it's been on there 30 years.
I was reading a post by MaverickH1L,
He says "Third, failing both of the above, remove the MAF (this is especially true in the cases of NEW AFTERMARKET MAF sensors). Look into the engine side of the sensor with a light reflecting off of the orange film inside. If the film doesn't appear to be completely flat, the MAF is toast and the only way to fix it is to get a new one. I HIGHLY recommend a GM MAF. I've had 2 aftermarkets and NEITHER was made right. The second one failed in ONE YEAR, and I never had an air leak. While checking the MAF, make sure that each and every component in the air intake is sealed to the next (especially true with Bird intake cans), as any air leak, even a tiny one, can kill a MAF.
So that's what I did and sure enough the film is not flat and looks separated. Is it pretty safe to say that it's toast? Being that its 30 years old and all.

Re: 30 Year old M.A.F sensor
Your making a HUGE leap by determining it to be 30 (actually only 26 if it's the 92 in your sig) years old just because it says AC on it . AC , as in "AC Delco" is a brand name that still exists today , indeed I bought an "AC" heater control valve recently only to find it has the exact same manufactured in Mexico sticker on it as the far cheaper "Everco" valve it was bought to replace . Nowadays , "brand names" are nothing more than a way for manufacturers to squeeze a few more bucks out of a customer whose still hung up on "brand loyalty" .
And yes , if the film is separated it IS toast , no amount of MAF cleaner is gonna bring that one back ....
