Quick distributor swap?

Car: 1987 Firebird
Engine: 2.8L V6
Transmission: 700r4
Quick distributor swap?
So I知 replacing my distributor the one I currently have works fine is is timed fine but I知 replacing it anyway just in case. If I take it out and set the new one exactly as the old one was would I have to go though the whole timing process because I知 worried I won稚 be able to do it
