ICM location?
ICM location?
Hello. I have a 1992 Camaro RS v6 5-speed. It hasn't ran in a while. I changed the spark plug wires and the plugs. Also the distributor cap. I think it might be the ICM(ignition control module) but I don't know where it is on the car. I looked in a Haynes manual and it didn't help. So, where is it? Thanks.

No spark ?
The icm is in the distributor. Pull the cap and you will see it at the base of the distributor.

You can follow this guide to see where the issue is.
I have seen the pickup coil deteriorate with age. First I’d check for power to the icm. Key on it’s the small connector at the distributor the pink wire. If that’s ok check the pickup coil. See this link.
If you do remove the icm heat sink compound needs to be applied to the bottom of the icm.

Re: ICM location?
Than what are you fighting, no injector pulse while checking with a noid light ?
If thats the case I can walk you through a few tests.
Since it’s been sitting awhile you might have a few issues keeping it from running.
assuming you have fresh fuel. The next step would be to check fuel pressure.
if all that’s good. You need to make sure you have injector pulse.
once you have pulse if it still doesn’t run your injectors are gummed up and need to be replaced.

Re: ICM location?
The no injector pulse can be caused by a bad icm, vats not working. Injector impedance wring or a wiring issue from the icm to the ecm.

Do a simple ohm check on each injector. Pull the spark plugs to check for the appropriate combustion color. Buy a noid light from an auto parts store and try it on both sides of the engine. Verify fuel pressure.
Does it start but run poor? Does it not start? A failing ignition control module can still do a half assed job and be considered in working order according to regular tests but still cause a random misfire. Random misfire just gets worse and worse until it reaches no fire. My recent experience has also proved to me it's AC Delco only for ignition control modules, don't waste your time on store brands or Wells, airtex, master craft/force, Borg Warner or standard.

Re: ICM location?
As stated above, ac delco only. Also you do NOT need to pull the dizzy out to replace it.
