Replaced coolant temp sensor but still no temp reading on dash cluster

I replaced the engine coolant temp sensor (one under the throttle body) but my temp guage still reads nothing, the pin is all the way on top past the red block , I took the cluster apart and wire rushed the pegs on the back thinking that might fix it but it did not.the needle is not stuck bc when I took the guages out I moved it down thinking it was stuck, now I am lost the only thing I can think of is running the wires from the connections and making sure it's not melted or cut? Or possibly changing the temp gauge? Anyhelp would be appreciated

I'm not sure about the 2.8, but on my 3.4, there are 2 temp sensors. The one under the throttle body and one in the cylinder head. The one in the cylinder head is used for the temp gauge. I believe it's a one wire sensor.

The sending unit for the gauge, and the sensor for the ECM are 2 different things...

Ok, where's the ecm and you think that's what's causing the guage not to work?

The ecm does not control the gauge, so if you replaced the temp sensor, it would have no affect on the gauge. You need to replace the temp SENDING UNIT in the cylinder head...

IIRC, the temp gauge sensor is in the front corner of the driver side head. Single green wire.

There are actually 5 devices monitoring temperature on an 89 V6

#1 Intake air temperature / ECM

#2 coolant temp / ECM

#3 coolant temp / CSI

#4 coolant temp / dash gauge

#5 coolant temp / radiator fan
