fuel line question

I'm considering replacing the rubber and hard lines on the engine with steel braided. Found the tpi to 6an fitting work on the V6 as well. My question is what is this on the hard line mounted at front of engine ?

Re: fuel line question

Is is a "fuel pulsation damper" that was installed in 1990 and up V6 cars . My 1989 V6 doesn't have it and to be honest I've never noticed my fuel "pulsating" in any way that the engine doesn't like . Consider it an expansion chamber for the fuel . If it's not rusty and not leaking it's just as well to leave it alone , but if it ever does become rusty or leaky I wouldn't hesitate to plumb it out of there .

Interestingly , someone in a different thread (that I can't find right now) cut one open to see what was in it , expecting perhaps some kind of rubber "bladder" like in the expansion tanks commonly seen with house hot water plumbing systems , and the big reveal revealed , , , , nothing , it's completely empty inside
