Is there a starter upgrade we can use over the factory starter for the fbody?

 

There are many, but I would recommend a starter for a 1993 -1997 LT1 f-body. It is smaller and more powerful. I assume you are asking for a 305 or a 350 not a V6.

 

I like my 96 corvette starter. Had to replace the battery wire for a longer one though.

 

I am actually asking because i need to replace my V6 starter and was curious if there was an upgrade for the V6 like the Lt1 starter i installed in my other car

this is the factory replacement starter. It came with a bulletin inside stating it was a direct replacement without the need for shim. I call BS!




I had to add shims to clear the bellhousing

 

Interestingly , all those starters pictured in the bulletin are not third gen V6 starters , they all have a straight across bolt pattern whereas our V6 has a staggered bolt pattern as in this picture I shamelessly stole from Rock Auto .

 

The starter that came in the box had corrrect bolt pattern, assumed the others were for the FWD versions of the 60deg V6

 

waned to follow up that this AC Delco starter just failed after only 4 months

 

AC Delco used to be a good replacement brand, but I think these days it's just more rebranded Chinese junk in an AC delco box.
I have had good experiences with NEW starters from Autozone. NOT reman. First one I bought was for a 1987 V6 camaro and it was a good part. I have bought several more for other vehicles with same success.

Edit: just looked at picture of your AC delco box and it says made in China. Autozone NEW could be made in China too for all I know, but quality control on their supplier seems good.
