Engine Swap
Read my 2.8->3.4 swap thread.
Same idea, foundation is 2.8 to 2.8
As I SUGGESTED new timing chain/water pump, swap injectors (look for best batch), seal ALL vacuum leaks, take your time!
It is very easy.
Also get a new oil pump spring for about $5 & new oil pump gasket for $4.
Rebuild distributor, also!
You total cost for this may end up about $200 or close to free (after you sell all the left over parts!).
Spend the effort & service tranny, too.
Run other engine up to operating temp to be sure of it's condition and take compression reading to gauge soundess of the to swap in engine.
ALL this is in your favor of a remaining long life for the swapped 2.8. Maybe a good two years of Pocono driving fun!

I really like my 1985 year. I mean the electronics are available and simple to diagnose.
If your body is a good body, enjoy the ride. You can update by newer body panles as GM did!
I can pick up 3rd gen V-6 stuff so cheap out here. I'm gonna get (I hope) Free shocks from a 1990 Z-28 very shortly.
Even if originals, if they don't leak, they are ok & performance version, too.
ONLY wish I could score free Bistein shocks that way. Haven't found that srecked car, yet!
