Return Fuel Hose Size?
(for 1984 2.8L V6 mechanical fuel pump) I know the supply hose from tank to the fuel pump is 3/8" rubber hose but can someone confirm what the size is for the rubber return hose from the fuel pump back?
Forgot to check the return hose while in there earlier. I'm guessing 1/4" but would appreciate a confirmation before I stop by parts store and buy some hoses.
Thanks!
PS Getting some rust recurring in the main filter at the Varajet carb so in addition to replacing the ancient hose, am replacing the fuel filter at the carb but also considering adding an additional in-line filter at the inlet hose up-stream.

Re: Return Fuel Hose Size?
Thanks for the confirmation!
Interestingly - I found out all carbureted V8 Chevrolets starting in early 70s w/ QJets with mechanical fuel pumps ran 1/4" return lines (they started switching to 5/16" return lines when switching from carbs to fuel injection). Based on that I would have bet my '84 V6 w/ 2bbl carb and mechanical fuel pump to likewise have had 1/4" return.
Anyway - thanks again for the confirm!

My car, which indeed is MPFI, does use 5/16", so yeah you'd best check yours.
Edited to add;
My utmost apologies!!!!!
Well, I'm happy you questioned my post! I did a search and your 100% correct, the 82 through 84 cars did use 1/4", at least according to this item from Classic Industries;

Re: Return Fuel Hose Size?
My '83 has 1/4" return fuel line. V-8 nd V-6 are the same size lines...
Re: Return Fuel Hose Size?
Hi TL, yes, it appears to have changed in 1985 as this is the earliest mention of 5/16" return line I found;

Re: Return Fuel Hose Size?
Thanks all - Yeah I also just confirmed my '84 V6 w/ mechanical fuel pump (Rochester Varajet) does indeed have 1/4" return hose.
That make sense and aligns w/ Chevy V8 mechanical fuel pumps for carbureted cars thru the 70s. Looks like they started switching to 5/16 return lines when they stopped using mechanical fuel pumps and carbs and switched to TBI etc around early 1980s depending on model.
Thanks again.
