Neat Find .... Daytona 500 Edition
Neat Find .... Daytona 500 Edition
I know this is the V6 board but this is the only one I really look at.
Any way .
I came across a really neat find in a small boneyard next door to my brothers house.
Its a 1984 25th anniversary Daytona 500 Edition Trans Am . It has the 5.0 with the air induction hood and twin throttle bodies.
It nearly brought tears to my eyes because it has been sitting for a long time in the weather and the back glass is broke out. The interior is rough but the body seems to be solid. I could turn the engine over by hand so I know it isnt seized up.
My question is are these cars rare and would it be worth offering the junk man a couple hundred for the car . Im sure the title is lost and would just have to be parted out. Its just a damn shame that the previous owners let the car get that bad off.

Its actually an 83, and if it were in decent shape it'd be one of the more rare most collectible thirdgen firebirds. If they have the title pick it up and put it back together... if they don't, its not worth the time since its just a Firebird with some nice parts.

I would offer him a couple hundred for it and see if he's game. A title would make it much easyer.
I dont know squat about this car but unless the seats have special badging along with other things just mix and match the best possible. If you were to restore this car to orginal it will be worth some bucks in a few years. Just leave the OE componets engine/tranny/induction. The more stock it is and the more numbers that match the more valuable it will be. You could get away with a cam swap and shift kit if auto but dont do much more than that. I read an artical in a auto restorer mag a few years back and the second most future collectable cars were 82-84Z28's and NO.1 were 82-84 Trans Ams, and this was a moslty ford lovers mag.

I might just see what they will take for it. The t-tops are still good and the engine might be worth something because of the twin throttle body intake and air induction hood.
someone restoring one of these it would make a good parts car

Ok I did the research on this one.
Drew is correct it is a 1983 .
Brian K is correct I can get an abandoned vehicle title, found out through a friend in the state police.
There were something like 2500 of them produced just over 1900 were automatics just over 500 were manual.
this one is automatic
I saw the owner in the store last night but didnt want to say anything till I talked to the wife .
But from the numbers I have seen she will just have to get over it
Ill keep you guys posted

That's a Cross Fire engine. It's a bear to get to run right. Commonly know as "Cease Fire"
MANY induction/ignition parts are no longer made.
IF you do this, be aware that engine is a dog.
From one that know them in/from Corvettes.
It's a reality statement, not a put down at all.
To beef up must almost recreate the base intake, slip in cam and play with heads. All is "easy" (cam/heads) you loose the dollars on the TBI & the lame design intake set up..
Wisest thing is to fix body, slip in a Tuned Port engine set up. And beef up tranny. Rest is common sense stuff.
