IT MAY FIT
But doubt it'll be effective.
Doesn't 2.8 & 3.1 use a diff air inlet electronic set up?

It will not work because the 2.8s use a MAF type air sensor while the 3.1s use a MAP sensor. These are fundamentally different systems and are not interchangeable.

No, the wiring to the computer is actually different as is the meaning of the signals read from the sensors. The chip might actually fit in the slot but it will not work. For a better explanation (that is over my head), search the DIY PROM forum.

no project85,

me and another guy on the board (camaro_hunter_d)
who has a 92 RS have been tryin a lot on the PROM issue...

firstly 89 is MAF and 92 is speed density

secondly for v6,s the computer Number 89 - 7302 / 7302A whereas teh v8's used the 165 ECM

and the 92 both v6 and v8 used 7730ECM with just one byte sayin 6 cyl or 8 cyl in teh PROM (so comp same chip different)

unfortunately our car has no commonness to any other comp in the Fbody series

but fortunately (if u are famalier with the ECMs)

the 89 computer has both the 160baud connector and 8192 baud connector... in the 92 the 160 baud was taken off...

and the 92 computer uses a different kind of chip holder altogether (although the same chip) (the 92 also has a bigger space (ROM))

the 92 chip looks a whole lot different than teh 89
in the photo below
the 89 chip is the one in the top (black one)
(which i ahve in my car)

and the 92 resembles the one in the middle (the white one)
