has anyone seen this on a 2.8??

i got bored today and tok apart my knocking 2.8.. it turned out to be a lifter knock.. it was puched up above the vaulve gasket and the its internals were sitting ontop of the cam.. it was the middle cylinder on the driver side.. the rocker arms were VERY badly burned/rusted looking.. as far as i can tell there is/was nothing else knocking.. im goi to take it complety apart tommorrow (take off the heads and oil pan).. whoever sold me the car knew exactly what was wrong with it too .. the vaulve over and intake were barly on hand tight!! there probably was at least 20 oz of silicone make-ur-own gasket stuff holding on the intake (good thing i had a pry bar handy )

just thought i would share that with u guys.. anyone think this is worth fixing?? oh well...

lala always has the answers :hail: :lala: :hail: :lala:

How far is it apart? if you replace the lifter and the other burnt part and put her together and she runs -- is there a need to go any further? I tend to adhere to the "Keep it Cheap" method. Of course, if this is your "fun" car and a project to be built upon -- then do the 3.4 or other motor swap.

IF it ran ok, TRY the repair.
IF NOT RAN WELL, consider it dead.
OR take pics and sue the guy in small claims court.
That may obtain funds for a better engine.
BUt look around for the best opotion.
Including using your time, too.

well.. i replaced the lifter and pushrod (yes only the lifter and pushrod).. then reasembled the engine.. its running pretty good now.. slowest car ive ever driven tho (slower than the 4 banger '98 s-10 i used to have).. im goin to be swapping in a 3.4 in the near future.. i found a l36 from a 94 maro that im gonna be rebuilding..

has anyone ever got a t56 to mate to a 3.4? is 6th gear usable?

I know one guy that have the 3.4 & stick set up.
I know Dan is hoping to do the 3.4 & stick set up , too.
The answer is ALWAYS include new clutch work for the tranny.
Good going on the band aid!!
Hope it holds up well!
Let me know if I can help with 3.4 engine location.
