there is a guy that works with me that has a 2001 ford focus that has a muffler and a reactive air filter on his car and no other mods.it is a five speed. he thinks he can beat my1992 camaro rs 3.1 v6 automatic. my mods are a 3:73 rear end,k&n air filter,flowmaster exhuast,pulleys,jet stage 2 chip,shift kit, crane ignition. his best time after running 11 times is a 16.2. do you think i can take him.

 

You will kill him i raced one they are slow and ugly. Have you seen pontiacs version of the focus i cant remeber what its called

the other nite comming home, me and my friend time my 0-60

my best time was 10 seconds flat with me and another lite kid in the car

this time was 9.5 seconds with me, Big Rob (250 lbs.) and Paul (200 lbs.) PLUS my toolbox (50 lbs.)

so thats 500 extra pounds of weight

and my mods got me down to 9.5 from 10

so its probably more like a 8.5-9 second 0-60 in reality

soooooooo................run lite!!!!!! and with your mods you MIGHT have a chance

No...I'm telling you, you're going to lose. No offense. The focus has anywhere from 110-170 HP depending upon the engine. Most have the 130HP engine, only 10 shy of what yours came with stock. On top of that, it's a fresh engine, the car's lighter, has FWD so traction's not a huge problem, and he has a 5 speed.

IF you're not makind up the 16.2, I have no doubt in my mind, he's going to take you unless he misses a shift.

 

Okay,

First run with as little gas in the car as you can.

Over inflate the front tires and lower the PSI in the rear

Adjust hte TV cable before you do it

Remove all floor mats from the car and stereo crap including CD's

Run in D not OD and Drop it at about 2000RPM or as high as you can hold it without moving.

Change your oil that day, I am serious

Drain you washer fluid

Clean your plenum


Then you might really win...

 

ok his car has 130hp when he went to baytown it was at sea level and it was cold that night thats why he ran a 16.2. when he got there his first run was a 17 tell me how the hell this car is going to beat me because i dont think he can because i have more power and torque then his. he is only pushing about 110 at the wheels.

 

I think I'm with Overclock on this one... it's a lightweight little tin-can with thin little tires (less road friction than yours) and a decent motor. Plus, who knows what kind of gears are in that thing! His "rear gear equivilant" could be a 4.15, compared to your 3.08! Yeah you might spank him in a race for top speed, but he might be 200 feet further than you in the 1/4 mile when the green drops.

Of course, make sure you rub this in his face if he wins. Plus, like you said, his car looks foul.

I can only say that mine has beat a focus, and a sunfire was a real close one. Not sure who won that one was so close...

 

Camaro_hunter_d what are your mods on the v6 and how bad did you beat the focus because i think i can beat him. this is all bull**** untill i race him beacause some people think i will win and some people think i will loose. i was supposed to race him this weekend but it is going to rain and it is kind of pointless racing him because all i will be doing is donuts at the start.

No offense, but if you can't control a car in a straight line in the rain anyways I don't have a very high opinion of your driving abilities. I do know that our cars have traction problems. Hell, my 92 would break loose at 45MPH if I punched it and the roads were slick, and this was with 235/60's on it. From a stop, I was able to spin all the way into OD, but I kept it in a straight line the entire time.

stock for me is 146hp@7000rpms/138lbs/ft@3800 rpms
and stock for me could get me high 15 's
so that prolly puts you at what, mid to low 15's then

just b/c you have more power and torque means ****. he drives a little light car. he has more gear then you. he does NOT need to have the power you need to move your car.
think about this
under 300hp will get my car into the 12's will it do that to your car?

At that time I have the ported/polished intake, K&N and smaller Diam tires. I also had a brand new clutch.

it is kinda like an econobox. or maybe even a civic si.
looks like quite a few econobox cars are doing better then the times I see listed here

I'll bet that Focus has a real poor shifter. Ford shifters were NEVER good feeling. Nor clutch pedal feel.

i work for a rental car company.. and i havent driven the stick version .. but ive done the best "manual shifting" i could do.. and them **** boxes dont move for nothing... i got a 91 3.1 and i defenitly dont think it would beat mine... smoke the dumass...

this sounds like me comparing my cars:
85 Firebird 2.8 ( soon, hopefully, to have the 3.4 & turbo later)
76 bonneville 400 (nitrous when the bird is done)

the bonnie came factory w/ 180hp & 320trq, the best stock I did was 17.1 (so far I now have a minitach so I can abause it a little more @ the track)

the boat has a more powerful engine, but also weighs about 1200 pounds more (est 4700 race weight).

from what I've read, that's about what the stock birds did. would make a good bracket race.


on topic:
get a fresh rebuiltengine w/mods, then trash his ****. I think he would take you, by being newer & lighter.

 

I know both of these cars The focus boy in question is already on the second shifter assembly in his car at 6k trashed the first one powershifting. On the night he ran the 16.2 he was running against a 99 civic dx with type r drive train a car he has never beaten b4 and has run 15 flat at the track he won 10 of 11 runs including a 17.5

Well if you get a 10 180 Termo that may help, take out the spare tire, make a CAI with a KN if possible. Plus with a V6 we dont get real traction problems like the big V8s do. All I can say other than that is put the pedal to the metal ANd remeber its a POS ford,and the firebirds are probly more aero dynamic.

I've looked in my car mags , the slowcus ZXT or ZST whatever it is , i mean focus runs 16.90 the ZST is the faster one . I think he is full of $hit saying he runs 16.2 , or maybe he ran that in his dreams

ZST could be a little faster , thats prabably a 5spd but then again I have to agree with Karl about the crappy shifters they have , I have heard that from people also .

My friend's old mazda had the equivilant of a 4.29 rear gear... that thing was insanely quick. But then again, it wasn't a focus econobox, either.

The other night my wife ( and she can race a car) and I drag raced I was in the 89 2.8 firebird, She was in the 97 3.1 Lumina.
She pulled me from the start by a car length , At 50 I caught back up and we were side by side . At 85 she was barely inching away.
I have absolutely no mods. I just keep it tuned . I am going to make a CAI set up ,install a K&N , and a 2030 cam in the very near future.
I believe If I had more cam the Lumina wouldnt have a chance.

 

I think people forget in the 80's a V6 with over 125 horse was pretty strong compared to other most other V6's. Well the Fbodys with sixers in them from the factory ran pretty strong with 135RW-HP. I think the 2.8's-3.1 are faster than expected on a Fbody. THe 3d gen V6s from the factory are about as quick as the 4th gen 6's coming from the factory. I think its mainly cause the 4gens are heavier. So a 3.4 Engine in a 3rd gen fbody equals "Watch your *** Mustangs and rice bodies"
