Antifreeze leak at rear of engine-3.1
Antifreeze leak at rear of engine-3.1
I have a 92 Firebird with the 3.1. I replaced the 2 front freeze plugs a year ago. Both of these were leaking. I assume that there is a freeze plug somewhere on the back of the block. I'm getting a small leak down the back of block and dripping from the small drain hole in the torque converter cover on the transmission.
I cannot seem to locate the leak. Any suggestions on where to look? Also if there is a freeze plug on the back side is this a (pull the motor) major chore? Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks:

i have a 2.8 on a stand in my garage. there are freeze plugs on the back side of the block. you can pull the tranny to do these, no need to pull the engine. its not leaking from the head gaskets or intake right?

I have not found a leak around the intake or heads on this motor. I have cleaned the motor off this weekend hoping to make finding the leak easier. I'll run it a while and try and locate the leak. Thanks for the info. I am almost assuming that it is the freeze plugs because of the failure of the front 2 plugs. The previous owner did not believe in changing his antifreeze. It flushed pretty well but the damage I'm afraid is already done.

I've got the same problem, it's freeze plugs, no doubt, I'm getting some brass ones. The rust thru after awhile on GM cars. O well
