i've already done something like that. I extended it so the filter sits below the "battery tray" and directly behind the turn signals (91-92 f-bird bumper) where it can get fresh cold air.

Again, Isolate it from the HOT engine air.
Make it outta cardboard (template).
Transfer pattern to Plexiglass.
That will make a BIG difference.
Get more air, there.
Make underside scoop.
Raise corner of the hood (see plastic black screw on the left?)
Twist it higher.
Lower the door for the headlight.
I'm even gonna slice a hole thru the hood brace support for more direct air to my A/C top scoop.
Raise hood, it helps!
I finally got a dirty filter!
I can feel the power as I pass cars going 75+.

one half of the tube is from a Honda Civic 96-2001(the part closer to the filter) the other half is a Universal j-bent air intake pipe (the one attached to the throttle body) You can get these parts at any place that sells intakes. Pep Boys, Kragen, Auto Zone, etc. I used the civic intake only because it has the right bend and length i needed to put the filter below the battery tray.
