? about Rebuilding Distributor

Well, a spark module is the same as an ignition module, but I don't think the MSD 6-series boxes count as ignition modules. I usually call them ignition boxes. Here's a picture of our ignition module:

'Course, you can't click for a fullsize picture, find that thru the http://www.holley.com site, click on annihilator ignition system, then click on accessories, then click on 891-103. For info; the small two-pins exiting the back of the module go to the "pick-up-coil" inside the distributor. The external (GM weatherpack) two-pin connector goes to the spark coil. The external 4-pin connector goes to our computer.

Older HEI systems, specifically, those with the coil inside the top of the distributor cap, used a 4-pin module. This 4-pin module can be entirely REPLACED by an MSD 6-series box! If you want to see that kind of module, here's a picture: http://store.summitracing.com/partim...t=22694&page=1

But, we're not so lucky. We can't replace our module with the MSD box, but we can still add an MSD box on. We disconnect the spark coil, and connect that engine harness into the MSD box. Then the MSD box connects to the spark coil. So for us, the MSD box "interprets" a spark signal. For the older 4-pin HEI's, the MSD box "creates" a spark signal.

Hope that helped!

Feeler gauge.
NOPE!
Gear
NOPE (if it engaged before why not now?)!!
BLACK RTV & CHEVY SMALL BLOCK DISTRIBUTOR GASKET!
Lay a film on both sides of gasket and lay in distb.
Say good bye to oil leaks!
Need a punch to remove the roll pin!
It truly is a very simple job once distb in your hands.

If you opt to go with the o-ring rather then the gasket get the 1 and 1/8 inch o-ring. 1 inch is slightly to small and will be harder to get on.

still debating on a Gasket or an O-ring, but I'll look at them both and campare if I can, then decide.

Btchin, is that 1 1/8" outside diameter, or inside diameter? If it's outside diameter, than my 1" inside diameter o-ring is the same as your 1 1/8" outside diameter o-ring! I had a 1" outside diameter o-ring given to me once by accident; it looked too small to even try.

Here are the specs on the bag of o-rings I picked up, bag of 5 for $0.98.

Width 1/8"

I.D. 1"

O.D. 1 and 1/4" (not one 1/8 SORRY!!!)

Manufactured by Motormite part number 84214 at Kregan's Auto Parts.

I thought about useing the gasket and the o-ring to provide double insurance against future leaks, but when I replaced mine I didn't have much time and forgot to pick one up.

First time I used the gasket, I didn't know about those O ring things.
I had a Chevy gasket hanging around, instead and it fit!

I found this old message by 89V6FBIRD, which mentions a part # by Pep Boys:

The O-ring you need is, yes tomp is right with the 1 inch inside diameter (always go w/ him), the width is 1/8 inch and the Outside diameter is 1 1/4 inches. hope that helps. Oh and the number on the Pep Boys bag is 64214 if that helps any.

Hi Wayne,
Being in LA, we got lots of options (kinda like women ,
I called local parts houses.
I wanted Accel.
I got one for $36 + tax.
If I needed to, I would have been able to grab one at a swap meet for $20.
