84 Camaro Engine Swap
84 Camaro Engine Swap
I have a 84 Camaro 2.8L V6 w/ 5speed.....
I was thinking about doing the 3.4L V6 swap, but now I hear that because I have a 82-84 I should just swap to a V8 Why should I go with the V8 swap since my car is an 84? what makes it so much easier than if it was an 85-92? Because the truth is, I would much rather have a V8 than any V6.
Thanks.

I have done the 2.8 to 305 swap in my '87 Camaro. In my mind it was worth it;Only you will know if it's worth it to you.
But as it will be said, you'd be better off selling the car & buying a Stock V8.
I must recomend if you go through with the swap, buy a V8 parts car, all those little things add up and even with a parts car you may still need to run to the scrap yard. I bought an '85 Berlinetta for parts, and ended up needing a new instrument cluster (the berlie's was dead) and a tranny (tho that's cause the car had a 700r4 and I wanted a T5). In total I think the swap cost me $1100 cdn; I probably should've sold the 6 and looked for a Z but a 6 with a dead motor is worthless
Do a search of the MotorSwap board for more info, there are plenty of people who have done the swap.

The reason a 82-84 V-6->V-8 swap is worth it on your platform.
You do not have fuel injection set up to deal with.
Extra gas lines/fuel pump at 50PSI in tank.
No computer, like a V-6 (rewiring can be fun!).
Dash/Gauges, plug/screw in sensors, touch wire, done.
Tranny-any choice, also.
V-6 cars, usually less thrashed (body can't go fast
).
You can buy V-8 cars in wrecks for free, if you time it right.
It's all up to your effort.
I am suggesting, you have an easier swap & your V-8 parts are as free as left over V-6 stuff, take advantage of the V-8 power for your effort!!!!!!!
I own a 1985 S-10 Blazer, dead 2.8 & tranny.
Going to swap in a 3.4, same style auto.
WHY NOT V-8?
Right now, my Blazer is needed. I do not feel like being a rocket scientist.
I have directions for the V-8 swap from JTR (Mike Knell) & Hedman. I have all the V-8 parts, minus the running V-8. I've owned/planned this since 1989.
Smog laws in CA. I slip in a 3.4, no one knows, I escape the swap penalty for cheap (free), it will pass smog easy. I can add headers & a supercharger (legal, too!) if I so choose.
But, for me & about $800, I get a running truck, without reengineering this wheel, yet!
After the 3.4 dies one day in the future, I'll go V-8. By then smog law for my truck will be like my 1974 Corvette, 1967 Camaro & 1968 Camaro & 1972 Honda motorcycle I DON'T HAVE TO SMOG CHECK IT ANYMORE!
