Ok, I didn't get the chance to drive my car, All I know is that it backfires from the intake when I rev it. It runs great and idles fine but it also makes a little ticking noise. I put NEW: Plugs, Cap, Rotor, Distributor Cap, and adjusted the timing 2 where it needs to be, I also changed the EGR Valve. Any suggestions, I have maybe 200 dollars and that isn't gonna be enough to take it to a dealer, Also there is a black wire coming out of a box by the radiator that is "hot"= Meaning when I touch the end of it with metal, It sparks like a bitch. I am thinking that this is a ground wire or something, I had numerous people tell me that there is no chance of any internal engine damage but can some of you let me know to tell me this?? It didn't make this noise b4 I installed the engine, I heard it run, And it ran GREAT. Whatz Up Wit Dat?

On my '91 camaro there is a distribution block (round looking thing, not a box) next to the radiator on the passengers side. Could this be where your "hot wire" should be connected? I would guess your wire should be connected to something and not just dangling!

Make this simple.
Pop off distb cap, put 17mm socket on crank, turn socket/crank, watch how long it take to move rotor.
If crank takes an inch to move, then rotor on ditsb. moves, chain is shot.
Do this while not adjusting the waste gate on the turbo.

Re:

Thanks for your help. I didn't have the chance to take it around the block to drive it yet, Would it be ok to drive just around the block?

Belker, I had thought of that too- but a black wire? They're all red wires down there. Could someone have replaced a fuseable link with a black wire?

"A black wire coming out of a box by the radiator"?? What does this "box" look like? Are you describing a relay? A fuse? Charcoal canister? An alarm of some kind? You don't mean the battery, do ya?

Try this: Look on your engine, by the oil filter. You'll see two funny looking things sticking out of the engine, right above the oil filter. One has one brown wire going to it. The other one has two wires going to it. Unplug that two-wire connector, and now try to start the car. (You won't hurt anything.) Tell me if the car starts.

Wow. How was the car being driven for all this time?

And, uh, you have no MAP, that's for 90-92 3.1 SD cars. You have a MAF sensor. And I haven't heard of a bad MAF causing a backfire. Is your distributor 180 degrees out of phase?

It didn't do this in the other car. I am getting an Intake Backfire. We didn't touch nothing when we took it out, All we did was plop it in my car. Any more suggestions?? My car has a MAP sensor, I went to a dealer and they said that it's 50 bucks for one for an 86 Camaro. Could a computer cause this??

Oh geez, here we go again. You don't have a MAP sensor, trust me. How the hell could you have a MAF sensor AND a MAP sensor? Please explain it to me, I'd love to hear it. Do you have a silver sticker under the hood?
