Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims

Don't get me wrong Scot, those are def nice set of wheels but as you can see in the original thread of em, not too many are fans even more with the price tag. I would rather get some FM10s or CCW's. If I get bored of em I can resell them in a second.

I am still hooked on C5 DD from OE. Granted these wheels I like are mostly found purchased for 4th gens and other vehicles, I know they would look killer on 3rd gens with the right color combo. Still for most paying up for a good set of wheels is out of the question.

These are the wheels that I am currently looking into, so far the C5 DD are the ones I might go with since the look and price is just right.

Still I think CCW Classics and FM10s are beautiful wheels.

FM10s

I recall seeing a few third gens with these wheels. Mostly Camaros. If everything goes right I might go with the FM10s for my 86 but looks like the C5 DD is the right choice for me.

Of that I have no doubt. But knowing a thing, and convincing a non-believer of it are two totally different things! She already thinks I'm nuts to want to spend more than $5000 on a paint job.

This is true but CCW/Fikse wheels are up there with Boyds. I wouldn't say that quote with wheels to be honest, a wheel can have the best quality but have the crapiest design ever and no one will ever like it, no matter the quality.

Still no matter the wheels, anything that costs $2000+ up for a set of wheels, 99% of TGO would never purchase it due to their ride being valued close to what the Wheel/Tire combo costs.

Hell a set of FM10s with Tires will cost 400% more than what my 86 shell cost..

Depends on what you want, I believe they have 3 designs/types. Haven't really looked into their site much. I know a good used set runs around $2000 on LS1tech. Fikse themselfs sold a few discounted sets for around $2000.

I'm on your side. I think there are a lot of wheels under a grand for a set of 4 that will do just fine. I also think I can get a great cup of coffee for half of what Starbuck's charges. It's all in the name.

To a point, if you are pulling 1g around a turn, do you wanna count on your $800 wheels?. Just a thought. After you spent $$$$$.$$ on your car you really wanna skimp on wheels? I can see how to most its not a big deal but to some it might be

A lot of these rims make the cars look too 'importish' in my opinion.

Finding SSTs?? I have a set I'm gonna put on my Coronet Paid $80 (I think) for the set at a swap meet a few years back. I'm pretty sure you can still get 'em.....maybe not the SST per se but a look a like for sure.

Haha black formula wheels on a gta. I have black gta wheels on a formula. The firehawk wheels with the car-matched painted bevels look pretty sick too.

Yeah keep it psudo stock. I see a lot of these wheels and it makes me think back to the 80s when you would see the 70s f-bodies with mag wheels. they always looked like an afterthought. Not completely matching the look. now ours our older people are changing to whatever is popular with the current hot rod crowd. I picked formulas since I wanted to keep stock size rubber on it. I needed 16x8 Rims. I used to love the look of the turbo wheels on my old Trans am (see:

or
or

so I wanted that look but silver would look silly on a black and gold gta.

My old car was bad a** looking
Even found the same exhaust tips for my GTA.. new in box from the 80s. looked for over a year for them.

Yes a little sarcasm. Don't get me wrong, I like TT Ds and IIs but I hate that you see them so much (and all the spin off models that look like them) for me a prime reason not to own a set. My buddy has 20" TT IIs on his GTA

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims

the blacks will go on the red camaro, not the gray. Should look better on that car, it'll proababy sit a little lower too.

The gold wheels don't fit with any decent caliper. Might swap to Z06 calipers that also won't fit. I value brakes over wheels.

Indeed, i've had the wheels since July. As I was on the phone with Zack(DiscountTireDirect customer service rep., awesome guy to talk to), my fiance was just as excited as I was about placing the order.

It was low as hell when I had my 305 in it, but when i swapped to 350 carbed, the front end raised up a hell of a lot, i don't know why but it bugs me.

Re: BEST looking 3rd gen firebird & camaro rims

I really like these of all the wheels I looked at. I was real interested in the Cragar wheels but wanted to look at different wheels and keep Cragar as my backup. Everyone's got TTII's or Cragar wheels and wanted to be different

After countless Wheel magazines and distributor books I always kept going back to this set

I dont have a good picture of them on my newly rebuilt Camaro but here are my wheels on my old camaro

Shorlty after this picture A new speed bump was put in up the street and wasnt marked. I was coming through at about 1:00am and hit the speed bump at 50km/h. Rear tires bounced up hitting my fenders and cracked them clear to the hatch window. Was going to rebuild the car but the body had weakened to the point that the roof was starting to crack, so picked up a project car and now I have my current show car

I recall seeing a few third gens with these wheels. Mostly Camaros. If everything goes right I might go with the FM10s for my 86 but looks like the C5 DD is the right choice for me.
Posted my car a while back. I'm running the C5 Deep Dish wheels from OE. I have to say that for the price and look, OE wheels are not a bad option at all.

That looks amazing, what spacers did you run in the rear? and front? any heavy mods to get them to fit? Tire size? I have alot of questions!

2 inch spacers up front and I'm running a 4th gen rearend with no spacers in the back. The fit is very tight, and to tell you the truth I haven't really driven the car enough to see if I'll have any issues. As for tire size, I'm running 295/35/18 on the back and 265s (I think, I might be wrong though) up front.

Yeah, looking at it closer, you might be right. They are pretty close though. Probably much more affordable too.

17x9.5 up front and 18x10.5 for the rear. Tires are actually 275/40/17s for the front.
