Another 17 inch rim question

So I just traded some junk wheels for some 17's. They aren't pretty but they are 17's and they will give me a chance to really get used to using my suspension that I've got. Just wondering what size people normally use. I've been thinking some 235/45's in the front with 255/45's in the back. What do you guys, and gals, think?

Re: Another 17 inch rim question

If your wheels are 17x9, I would go with a P275/40R17. I am running this size now on the front of my '87 Camaro IROCZ. No rubbing lock-to-lock.
If the wheels are 17x8, then I think that the P255/45R17 that you mention above would be the best size.
And whether you have rubbing or not, will depend alot on the wheel offset.

Re: Another 17 inch rim question

The width is 8.5". Not sure on the backspacing. They are on a guys truck at work so the only time I can really check them out is there. He's got 235/45's on them now and the rim sticks out just a little so I'm sure it'll handle wider than that. Just need to see what the backspacing is so I can see if the car will handle it.

Re: Another 17 inch rim question

I put them on my car last night and there are no clearance issues at all. If anything the little 235/45's on the wheels look a lot smaller in my wheel wells than the 255/60's I had in the back and 235/60's I had up front. I'm probably gonna go with 245/45 Nitto NT555's up front and I think 255/50 of the same kind in the back. I like to fill the wheel well but I'll probably order the fronts first and see how they fit, then as long as it looks like I have the room then I'll get the rears. What size's does everyone else run for fat 17's.

Re: Another 17 inch rim question

The most important thing is to get a tire that is about 26.0" in diameter. For a 17" wheels, you should use a P255/45R17 or a P275/40R17. For the 8.5" rim width, I would think your best choice is the P255/45R17...
