Ran over a squirrel for the first time in my ThirdGen..
Before you assume I killed it, I didn't. Was already dead, but I did drive over it. Managed to avoid re-roadkill for 2yrs, til now. Animal lover and I feel like my Camaro is tainted. Squirrels aren't that smart.

bad thing abut these cars is that they sit so low with out GFX on that sometimes roadkill gets stuck or splaters.....

Missed a deer by less than 10 feet just a week ago. Big sucker too. Less than a 1/4 mile form home. Don't really expect to see them this time of the year , not at 2 in the afternoon anyway.

Re: Ran over a squirrel for the first time in my ThirdGen..
I hit two raccoons in my GTA crossing the road. Just couldn't stop fast enough, and I just hosed it off when I was home. Car was a mess though there were guts all down the side. To this day I wonder how the front air dam didn't get torn off..
Re: Ran over a squirrel for the first time in my ThirdGen..
Saw a turtle while driving 50mph on a winding road so I went directly over it and luckily it was short enough to pass under the air dam. If my car was lowered it would have been a hockey puck though.

Re: Ran over a squirrel for the first time in my ThirdGen..
I once ran over something when I had side pipes, I believe it was a dead cat. I forgot how bad dead things smell when cooked on a side pipe that sits right in front of the rear tires.
Also had a deer hit ME once. Cruising along at about 20-25mph in a 35 around midnight (I know deer like to congregate around there). Well aparrently my exhaust was still loud enough to scare the bajesus out of one of the youngins. He flew like a bat out of hell right into my drivers side front wheel. Smashed into the fender well, pushing the fender lining into the tire, tweaked the headlight sideways and left a nice bit of curb rash with a side of fur on my driver's side front wheel.
You always wonder what the first thing you do in a situation like that is going to be. Well lucky for him, I had my window down. First thing I do, jab the brakes counter steer from the hit and lean out the window shouting "You F*cking DEER!", he sees me, as he is sliding across the pavement flat on his side looking up at me. I think I got the point across quite well. As soon as the car came to a stop I flung the door open and went into chase/damage assment mode. Some how, as banged up as he was, he managed to out run me.
Lucky fellow, he was quite nearly dinner.

Try running one over with a Ford Expedition. Holy **** was that ****er flat. What was funny about it is I somehow missed his tail. So the bushy tail was sticking straight up in the parking lot and moving with the breeze. The rest of it was as flat as paper.
I also ran over a duck on the service road to I 75 in my girlfriend's (at the time) brand new truck.

I once was following a semi on the highway and it's trailer ran over a squirrel. I was a good hundred yards or so back and saw it happen. Then it starts to get up and crawl away! I started to scream and swerved for the thing. Killed it dead. No invincible zombie squirrels on my watch... Never... You're welcome.
I did hit a skunk once with the underbody of my car... three car washes later and I could finally breathe.

Reminds me of a time I hit a little rabbit, It was a two lane road with traffic so i hoped the little guy would fit underneath but nothing fits underneath the air dam on a lowered car. My dad hit a skunk once and got sent home from work (they could smell it from inside the building).

I drove from Vancouver, B.C., to Regina, Saskabush (
), and ran over so many Prairie Dogs ( Gophers, whatever you wanna call 'em ) that I had to run my Vehicle through the car wash more than once to get rid of all the guts and fur and blech.
Stupid things just look at you and stand up to see what you are doing SPLAT
Can't avoid them @ 140K
They don't even go bump, they just bounce around under the car Bang Bang Bang

Re: Ran over a squirrel for the first time in my ThirdGen..
One time when I was driving home I had a turkey fly over my hood, and it scared the crap out of me. I already had a crack in the windshield so I thought for sure it was going through it. Also we used to have a peacock that lived close by my house and it would just stand in my way. Like one time I was trying to pull in the drive and it was in the way. I revved the engine up loud (no horn) and it just stood there. It finally moved but I was like really?

Re: Ran over a squirrel for the first time in my ThirdGen..
Hahaha I just got dirty looks for laughing that hard at work. Thanks guys.
I haven't hit any animals in a thirdgen, at least not yet (knock on wood). I hit 6 deer in my old 95 Blazer and one in my Trailblazer. My old Blazer was a tank. The funniest was when I love tapped a deer in the snow one time. I was only doing maybe 20 mph and trying to stop but was sliding. After I hit it I tried to look over the hood to see if it was alright and WHAM! Another deer smacks my stationary truck in the passenger side fender. Then the deer I hit pops up and they both trounce into the woods like nothing happened. I was just sitting there in shock haha. If they had middle fingers, they would have been up.

I LOVE Top Gear, they tell it how it is. I have never hit anything in my car. But I was driving my go-kart on some trails a few years back where bats are known to swoop down from trees and such and get real close to you, all this during the day too. Well one swooped on down and BAM, hit my helmet straight on. Never looked back to see if anything was wrong or if it died, but it did give me whiplash. I was doing about 30mph or so.

I hit a seagull on the way to ocean city one summer in my wrangler with the top off. That S.O.B. went up in the air and landed in the lap of my drunk buddy in the back seat! He just about sh*t his pants! I have never seen a guy scream like that since! Damn, I am laughin thinkin about it.

Re: Ran over a squirrel for the first time in my ThirdGen..
My IROC ate a bird on my way to school two years ago, and when I say "ate a bird," I mean it literally ate a bird. I had my fog lights out at the time and it got sucked into one of the holes, flattened about half the fins on the radiator and put a half dollar sized hole in the radiator. There was some blood and feathers stuck to the accessories on the motor but that's all it left behind. I went back about 2 hours later with a buddy and walked up and down the road but couldn't find the bird anywhere.
I had minor contact with a few turkeys on my motorcycle last summer. There was a group of them by the side of the road and my cousin who blasted ahead of me must have scared them so they took off flying across the road right as I was going by. The only contact was me being hit in the head by a wing.
I hit a fish with my snowmobile this winter. It was the last time we took them out because the snow was starting to melt so I went riding with some freinds. Rather then going a 1/2 mile upstream for a bridge we decided to shoot across the open water. I went last and ended up hitting either a fish or a rock. The reason I think it was a fish is because where we crossed it, it was a good 4' deep and because we all crossed in the same spot and no one else felt a bump.
I was tackled by a deer my first year hunting. We were doing a drive through a corn field and spooked it so it started running, but it ran towards us instead of away and I was in the row it was headed down. It didn't even try to stop, it just plowed straight into me. I flew a couple feet and ended up with cut pants and jacket from its hooves. I got all kinds of crap that night from my group for not knifing it but I was too shocked to react quick enough.
During a soccer game when I was 13 I did a somersault around a dog that ran onto the field for the ball. It was going for the ball I was running with and we T-boned. From what other people said, when I hit the dog it basically stayed still and my somersault was me spinning around the dog and landing flat on my back. I got a headache from hitting the ground and I was later told the dog was fine.
That is all my experiences so far with hitting animals.
