Painting Gold Gta Wheels

Hey everyone,
My Firebird currently has Gta wheels on it that are painted red to match the cars paint. The car is in storage for the winter and I wanted to take the wheels off and repaint them. I think painting the wheels back to gold would look better than the red they are now. So my question is what gold paint should I use to paint the wheels. Is there any specific brand or shade/color that looks exactly like the factory shade of gold?
Thanks for any help

I think the paint you want is called antique gold. You could order your wheels in gold, black, white or charcoal from the factory so yours may have always been red. Personally I think they're neat. It might be cheaper and less of a hassle to get a complete set of gold rims and just swap your tires.

Re: Painting Gold Gta Wheels

Just get gold wheel paint (duplicolor). Unless you park beside a car with original gold GTA wheels, no one will know the difference.

If you want the factory color, and you have a paint gun and air compressor, just go to your local autobody supply and get real base/clear urethane paint...

PPG # 3917
DuPont # B8738
GM Code WA 9008
GM Code 52P
GM Color "Gold Poly"

Any autobody store can get you the paint that you need with one of the above numbers or codes. Some PPG or DuPont stores can also put the paint into a aerosol can.

Re: Painting Gold Gta Wheels

I am in the process of restoring my Dad's 89 GTA and initially decided to go the clean up and repaint path too. But after a few hours of cleaning and getting nowhere I took the rims to a place that did sandblasting and they explained the process of powdercoating. They gave the wheels a bath and then shot them in appropriate colors before clearing them. They look much better than factory and it cost me about $115 a wheel.

Hmm..powdercoating does sound like a really cool way to go..but I dont think I can afford $ 115 per wheel.

Re: Painting Gold Gta Wheels

I decided to have my wheels powder coated and am glad I did. The powder coater actually did the entire back of the wheel and rim as well. The wheels look great and clean off real easy. I highly recommend it!
