try wet sanding (just the gold) with a fine grit sand paper maybe 1200 then 1500 wet untill the color is gone and then buff and polish the aluminum,

thats all i can think of.

Don't just sand it off. Get some paint stripper & brush that on. Once the paint comes off, then you can start with the sanding/painting/polishing/whatever you wanna do to them.

i didn't suggested the use of chemicals because they might be to harsh on the aluminum, but if someone else have done it with no problem go for it

I used it on 92 RS 16" wheels years ago. The wheels did fine & I polished the wheels afterwards.

any auto body supply, autozone, kragen....one brand is aircraft paint remover, is the most common here in SoCal

dont leave it on too long to be on the safe side and follow the directions on the label, also make sure you use thick disposable gloves, i usually use like 3 one on top of the other, that sh*** burns your skin

That car was done back in the mid 90s. I have a few pics, but none that really show how the wheels changed any.

Aircraft is what I used then & yeah...Definitely wear rubber gloves. I recommend getting the thick ones, not just the latex ones. This stuff will eat Dr.-type latex gloves...That much I remember & learned the hard way!

Length shouldn't be a problem, I stripped my whole Firebird with that, brushed it on and literally in 3 sec the paint curled up and fell off the car.

And yes it burns like heck just as fast, but thats why it works

Re: Can you Remove Paint off the OG Irocs???...

use aircraft paint stripper works great ive used it b4 on a set of 86 iroc wheels brush it on let sit for 15 minutes and rinse off with a hose wont harm the aluminum. might have to coat 2 or 3 time pending on how old the rim. ive also had them beadblasted b4 an turned out awesome looked like a brand new rim even better after polishing
