Keeping Center Caps on

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to keep from losing center caps on a 3rd Gen Camaro? The tabs don't always hold them in place and @ $8-10 each it gets expensive to keep replacing them.

Let me know.

Re: Keeping Center Caps on

Only time I lost one was when I didnt put it on right. I use a rubber mallett with a towel over the cap so put them on. When I was modding my caps. I got fiberglass resin down them and that really made the metal tabs stiff which made them really not wanna come off now. But even before I did that. They didnt come off unless I was being lazy by not putting them on properly.

Ok. I haven't tried the mallet to put them on. I just pushed them on. I'll give it a try.

Thanks!

use a towel over them or something soft so you dont crack them, and dont hit with all your might either

Re: Keeping Center Caps on

those are interesting with the smooth, slightly rounded dome.

Do they have metal retaining tabs or plastic?

Re: Keeping Center Caps on

With just the plastic tabs they do tend to come loose.

Buy some of the metal retainers & you'll stop losing them.

Re: Keeping Center Caps on

Have you tried putting the retainer in the wheel & then the cap on the retainer?

If it is in the cap a bit too far, the retainer may not be able to hook/grip into the wheel tight enough to hold.

Or try flexing your next retainers outwards a bit so that they hold the wheel tighter?

Re: Keeping Center Caps on

Thanks for all the input. I followed Undercover 89's advice. The caps I got fit much tighter than those that I have had in the past. It took a bit to get them on even with light touches with a mallet so I should be good to go.

Thanks again guys for the help!
