I recently picked up a set of 2002 camaro ss wheels (17x9) and am running 2inch spacers all the way around. Im suggesting using 255/45/17's all the way around. I would use 275's but im worried about how well they will react to hydroplaning and they only make a 40 size sidewall in this tire. Recommended sidewall for a 17 inch wheel is 45 to keep the speedo on. Anyone have any recommendations for me or should I stick with the original plan of 255/45/17's?

 

I've run the 275/40R17s all the way around & the speedometer is right on, so no need to worry about that.

No hydroplaning issues either. Just run good treaded tires & water escaping will take care of itself & prevent hydroplane issues.

Fronts may rub abit at full lock and if your car is lowered alot. Mine rub with 255's up front but its slammed pretty low in the front.

No hydroplanning issues here on either of my cars. 255/295's on the camaro, and had 275's all around on the 99 trans am and now 275/315's on the trans am still no major issues with a good tire designed to handle wet conditions as well as dry.

I'd run 275's on the rear for sure if you have any kind of power in the motor. 255-275's up front but 275's fit a 9" rim better I think

Granted ANYTHING will hydroplane if you hit a deep puddle of water fast enough.... Drive normally in the wet and you will have no problems.

C6 wheels on my car, 1.7" spacer up front with C5 brakes which push the hub out .3" I was told so its 2" overall. Its an 18x8.5 rim with same spacing requirements as 4th gen fbody 17x9's

rear is 4th gen rear and with the big 19x10's, I have to space them out an additional 0.625" with a hubcentric slip on spacer. If you had a thirdgen rear and wanted to run 19x10 C6 vette wheel, you'd need 2.5" spacer.

Most all 17x9 sized 4th gen fbody wheels just need a 2" spacer for a thirdgen rear and no spacer for a 4th gen rear.

 

I should be good then. I was actually reading the thread on your build the other day, amazing vehicle you have there. I bought my camaro a couple of months ago while in the desert. On my off time here all i do is read on this site.

 

Never rubbed, until my fender got tweaked by some ladies Ford Exploder last year. Even then only that side rubbed at almost full lock. And fit quite nicely despite the fender lip height of 25.5". Which, I think, is like 2"/2.5" lower than stock.

40series vs 45series.....That is 40% & 45% of the 275mm width. 110mm vs 123.75mm overall height. 13.75mm overall, or 6.875mm from the center, isn't going to be noticed any.

There's a fourth gen here in my town, running 275/40s on 17x9s, and it looks mean and aggressive. But I also like the square look of 255/45s on 9s. You have a tough choice, with 2 good options.
