16" GTA Wheel offset.. Need help
16" GTA Wheel offset.. Need help
Ok, I just got into my first GTA after being in a mustang for the past 10+ years so i will be trolling thru here pretty frequent and trying to get as much info as possible, but here is my first question-- I noticed the offset on my wheels. The front wheels seem to have a deeper off set than the rear.. ( more dish/lip...) Why is that? Or were the wheels put on wrong. Should the deeper off set be in the rear? I'm not sure if this question has been asked before, I will apologize in advance. Thanks for any help/info.. Rad

They are on correctly. If you look at the wheel when it is off the car & you will see FRONT & REAR cast onto the back of them.
If you put a rear on the front, the deeper offset will cause the wheel to hit the brake caliper.
I agree that the look is "wrong" (deeper on front) but you can switch fronts to back & rearas to front IF you find you a slip-on spacer, like the ones the factory used that were 16mm thick. They were used on the rear, but work good for this application. My daughter has that & rears on the front, front on the rear. We did that when the car was her moms car.
Small warning when you go to a tire shop. If they pay attention & see the FRONT/REAR cast into them, they'll switch the wheels on you. And for those people without the spacers (which is not standard) the shops will just see the different depth faces & put the rears on the front & fronts on the rears which ends up scraping the wheel on the caliper. I've been through that before.....

I don't get why they just didn't make all 4 wheels the same offset. Awe well I guess that was long ago. Thank you for the info. Gonna go rotate the wheels now. Lol

Lots of people get 4 front wheels not only for looks but to make tire rotation easy.
If your rears are fitting on the front without spacers & not rubbing, I'd leave it alone. Your only the 2nd person I've heard of that has run rears on the front without spacers & didn't rub.

Well I just rotated the tires and found that the wheel was going to rub the tie rod ends so I put some spacers on the front. I did grind the lip off the strut just for added clearance. I plan to lower the car with some Eibach springs after Christmas and maybe that will help with clearance issues. If not then I'm going to opt for another set of wheels to run all four fronts or may add a lil longer studs for safety measures if I keep the rears on the front. As of right now the car looks much better IMO with the wheels switched from front to rear... rear to front...

Just snag you a set of slip-on spacers. I think 1/8" is all it takes. I forget how thick the factory ones are. Then you can keep the Rears on the front & Fronts on the rear.
But here is a link all about the offsets & fitting different wheels on our cars.

I did. There on the car already. Just gave her a bath now it's time to take a lil cruise. Next thing on the to do list is fix my passenger side exhaust leak. Then she is good to go for a lil while longer till I can find me a black and gold t-top with a 350 auto.
