Ugh, will these fit?

I asked 2 different places and got two different answers (go figure). Ill admit im a complete noob when it comes to anything wheel or tire related and neither place did much to help.

I have a 1982 Firebird and would like to run 18X9 wheels in front and back that have 5.3 backspacing. Now, will these fit flush (not sticking out past the fenders) and if so what spacers (if any) will i need?

On the same topic what tires would you guys recommend?

Thanks

They should fit like a glove with no spacers. Should put the tire about.flush or .just in from the wheel opening

You know full well that a 5.3" backspacing will NOT fit up front without a spacer, only in the back without one.

Re: Ugh, will these fit?

from the fitment sticky at the top of the page, if you need more proof

15-inch: 15x8 with 4 1/2-inch backspacing front and rear. Use tires with an aspect ratio of 55 or less with a section width of 255.
16-inch: 16x8 with 4 1/2-inch backspacing front, 5 1/8 backspacing rear. Use tires with an aspect ratio of 55 or less and a section width of 255.
17-inch: 17x9 with 5 1/2 inch backspacing front and rear. Use tires with an aspect ratio of 40 or less with section widths of 255 front, 275 rear.
18-inch: 18x9 1/2 with 5 1/2-inch backspacing front, 18x10 with 6-inch backspacing rear. Use tires with an aspect ratio of 35 or less with section widths of 275 fron, 275-295 rear.

Re: Ugh, will these fit?

even do a search, there are quite a few topics recently dealing with wide 18"'s. BIGMODS for instance, uses about 6" on the front with a c5 brake kit, so thats about 5.75 without, and he has plenty of clearance to the strut and tie rod....

Re: Ugh, will these fit?

I agree with 86, I have measured over 6.5" of clearance from wheel mounting surface to the strut for an 18" wheel. This is with aftermarket brakes, with stock brakes you would have about 6" of clearance. 5.3" BS will fit just fine.

Here is an 18" 6.25" BS wheel on my front. About 1/2" clearance between strut and wheel.

I can just fit my finger in between the wheel and strut.

Here you can see the wheel clears the tie rod.

And here you can see the wheel clears the lip in the strut.

Those will fit perfectly. Excellent choice. What wheels are they?

Re: Ugh, will these fit?

Thank you for the help everyone, i greatly appreciate it.

The wheels i plan on going with are US Mags.

Does anyone have any suggestions as far as tires go?
