New Rims and tires (Car is pulling)
Okay so I recently bought a new set of rims and tires for my 1992 Pontiac Firebird. I went with Boss 18" Rims with I think look amazing but ever since I put them on my car pulls left and right. Mostly left but sometimes right. It makes it difficult to drive with going fast speeds or anytime. I had the tires balanced and the car alined and it still pulls any thoughts or ideas? Did anyone else have the same problem and how did you fix it? When I had my stock rims on the car didn't pull at all and never had a problem. I also am running spacers on the front because the hub is to big.

With new rims and new tires and an alignment, my next thought is brakes.
Did you have any brake work done at the same time?

when you run wider wheels it will pull more compared to stock width wheels so thats normal also double check your alingment as factory is not ideal settings

Re: New Rims and tires (Car is pulling)
I haven't done any brakes lately and I need to so I could try that and see if it helps. I know that when you run wider tires you can feel a lot more in the road and it will pull a little more but this is more than it should be. I just took the car to a shop to have the alignment done so that shouldn't be the case.

has pretty good alignment info you shoud read it like i said factory alignment isnt really ideal
also double check worn out suspension and steering components when did you upgrade or replace any components or alignment is just a waste of money IMO but steering and susension is a good start start with front and go over especially the steering
same thread alingment settngs

put your stock wheels on and see if your problem goes away.
probably something to do with the spacers.

no i dont think its the spacer its suspension/steering issue or wider track and wheels w or combination of both
20-10+ years old suspension depending what you done needs some loving

Re: New Rims and tires (Car is pulling)
I think it could be both. I thought that it was my spacers when I first put them on and I still think so but Zach is right too old suspension needs to be replaced. I've only had the car for year and a half now and I haven't done anything with the suspension so it probably does need replaced, I need to do the front brakes, and I want to try and figure out a way to get my rims to fit without the spacers

Re: New Rims and tires (Car is pulling)
yea restore your front suspension it should tightin things up abit rockauto.com has pretty cheap stuff if your low on funds
Front Brakes are easy to do !
whats the issue with the rims ? whats the offset diameter width of your wheels what size spacer what is the issue your dealing with ? long story short your you need a wheel with 0 offset or close to to run NO spacer if you have 18s you can tuck wheel in a bit more due to tie rod fitting inside wheel barrel wheel fitment is kinda hard due to the fact of thirdgen wheel requirments vs the wheels that are out on the market today dont go hand and hand hence why alot of peopel either run spacers or have a custom made wheel or work with the selection of wheels that dont require a spacer

Yeah I wanted to see if there was any way that I could shorten the hub down? I can make the hole on the rim a little bigger but I really don't want the hub to stick out that much and I would like to put the center cap on but at this point I just want my car to drive right again. Here is a better picture.

Re: New Rims and tires (Car is pulling)
yea no way around that i would suggest making your own Caps then no you cant really shorten it as the wheel bearings and disc is all in one you can try to hammer down the dust cap to get caps to fit

Re: New Rims and tires (Car is pulling)
Well as it sits right now if I hammered it down I could fit the caps on but I don't there will be anyway to fit the caps on without the spacers but like I said right now I just want the car to drive correct because it has been snowing and really want to stay safe. But I will mess with the rims and make them fit over the hub and I will let you know this weekend how it goes!

Re: New Rims and tires (Car is pulling)
machine the wheel center bore so the hub fits deeper into it., thats what i did and then i used a spacer to make up the rest of the difference.
as for pulling, mine did just that when i put my new rims on and it pulls to the right sometimes left but mostly right, (this is without hitting the brakes, it could also be the crown in the road which i just thought of.) i replaced all tie rods, struts shocks, and both the strut mounts, and checked and snugged the wheel bearings. replaced all poly bushings, iroc springs within the last 3 months, and then today i have relaligned the vehicle Twice today at two different shops. very little pull now but i still have a vibration in the steering wheel above 65 70 and worsens going faster. talk about a royal PITA.
