i used VHT high temp wheel paint from autozone it took about 2/3 a can of satin black and about a 1/4 can of the grey, i painted the back too. Used clear coat as well. This wheel took me along time to get to this point, and i still need to polish the lip, i probably should have done that first but i got impatient and just wanted to see it done. This was definitely a learning experience. Theres probably a better way of doing it then the way i did it but it turned out better than i thought it would.

Re: Painted 85 Camaro RS wheels

I would have sanded and polished before you painted, but If you mess up the painted while sanding down the rough surface on the aluminum lip, you'll know for the next one

can't say I would have down the two tone, but a long as you are happy, it looks 100% better than before

Re: Painted 85 Camaro RS wheels

The lip was sanded, i just didnt polish it the way i wanted to, its actually smooth and kinda shiny as is but i originally wanted it to shine. i can still hit it with my polish pad on my drill and hopefully wont mess up the paint if im careful. As for the two tone, i was trying to make the 5 spoke stand out by using the black in the triangles and grey in the star. ive seen alot of guys paint it all black or everything but the lip black and it looked good, but seemed too dark for my taste. besides black and grey are my two favorite colors! lol

Re: Painted 85 Camaro RS wheels

In that case I sure would have gone with an all black paint job (except for the polished metal of course)

You might have a hard time flipping them by going with an unorthodox paint job. All black would sell easy

don't believe me? Ask the guys in this thread.

Re: Painted 85 Camaro RS wheels

well i already have someone that wants em but he just doesnt want to pay for em...lol

too be honost i respect your opinion, however if i think all black is ugly im sure there are others that think that as well. Im not worried if they dont sell, i just might end up keeping them and putting them on my car this summer when i do my satin black paint job on the firechicken, i think it would look good on a black or grey car, not so much on a red car, which is the color of my car now. I just wanted to do something i havent really seen.

Re: Painted 85 Camaro RS wheels

never said they were ugly, it's just the more custom you get the harder it is to find somebody that shares your vision

Re: Painted 85 Camaro RS wheels

I think it looks good, but yeah I would have polished it before the paint. I think someone will want them, but stock silver would sell the best IMO. I have the same wheels on mt RS and they are the stock silver and will always be that way. My car is black, and I like black wheels, but for some reason I do not like the 15" RS/Z28 wheels done in all black.

Re: Painted 85 Camaro RS wheels

I think the two-tone looks awesome! I'm going to do the exact same thing for my car. It's a 1971 vega painted flat grey, so I think they'll match well! Thanks for the idea!
