Re: Lost rim key
Just had to do the same thing yesterday for mine. I had realized I didn't have a key to my rims when I bought the car. Getting the lock off was the easy part. It was getting the lock out of the socket that was he work. Mind you it was 37 degrees here in Chicago.

Re: Lost rim key
the key for my RS matched my Iroc, go to a junk yard and try to find one, im almost positive they are all the same, or there are only a few variations like the ignition key values

Re: Lost rim key
I needed tire replacement the other day.... Had found the packaging with old lug nuts but no key... No problem, they just did the 20mm 12pt socket routine for me at no charge

Re: Lost rim key
Autozone used to sell and rent a set of lock removers. Maybe they arent allowed to sell them anymore...but they seemed to work well. I have a set that I picked up when I worked there and they were "manager dispose". No one else there knew what they were, and the label fell off the box...hence them being damaged out LOL.
Socket will work though.

Re: Lost rim key
Might I suggest covering the rest of the wheel with towels/etc. in case you slip with the tools. I would be very upset if I damaged my wheel in any way.

If u can't get it off with a socket use a cold chisel and a beater ... Use the chisel to make a notch in the lock nut and tap (beat) it around in a circle ... BE CAREFULL !!!! .... A shorty 2lb beater works good

Re: Lost rim key
So you have actually done this?
It takes a "considerable" amount of pressure with a "lug wrench" to remove lug nuts that have been tightened by using a lug wrench.

Re: Lost rim key
if you are willing to take a chisel and hammer to the lug nut you might as well split the whole thing off and buy a set of 4 lug's to replace the keyed lugs with
