FINALLY ordered new wheels and tires. going with big 18"
here is my car

im going with
18x9.5 weld rt-s with 5.5" backspace and 275-35/18 nitto nt555 fronts
18x10 weld rt-s with 6" backspace and 305-35/18 mickey thompsons on the reaf
buying everything through hawks thirdgen...he was able to get a better price than summit racing.
where I need help is with everyones opinion. I want to order the black face wheels, but I have no black on my car. I got to thinking....should I just get the wheels with the polished face, and have my paint guy paint them gunmetal grey to match my lower stripe and interior?

Congrats - good to hear to you going wide with the wheels and tires.
Color depends on your preference, black would be contrasting (which can look really good), and the gunmetal would match. I occassionally run black wheels on my white GTA - contrasting color looks better than silver on white to me.

Dang, I bought different wheels so I wouldn't copy your R15's with the same paint (still have the R15's on though)... I picked up a set of 18" work equips, and a set of 17" Epsilon mesh.
Post pics when they are on! I personally think it has been hard finding wheels that look good on our color combo!

i have a couple questions about your Ronals. did those require spacers on an '89 Formula? did they rub in the front?

they bolt right on. They typically come with a small front spacer, but I don't need it. They don't rub on my car. Every car is different though.

Yikes....that's a tough call. I have the polished RTS wheels for in a 15" combo, they look really nice. They'd look even better in an 18".
I would go polished. I think black RTS look really good on silver or red cars....but, that's just my opinion. There is a white camaro on this forum that had a set similar to what you're looking at.
Here's a link to his car with a 15/17 combo: Click

Re: FINALLY ordered new wheels and tires. going with big 18"
I'm biased but don't like polished and also don't like polishing wheels every week you probably drive less than I did but when I had my polish budnks found my self polishing them at least once a week even twice a week but I was DD the car all week , I also feel fully polished wheels belong more on classic old school hot rods and muscle cars which is pretty much the standard trend you see to accent the polish metal trim pieces etc
I would like to see the gunmetal center to match your cars stripes but that's me and would balance out and print together the gunmetal
Black face welds would look to bad would bring together the black bumper insert and door handle etc and like stated above I prefer the contrast of darker wheels on lighter cars like white third gens just looks better
IMO think the color match center would be a match be perfect and the black would look sweet also but polish not digging it lol

Those wheels look great on that white camaro!
I went with the black for now. Can always paint the centers if I decide thats what I want to do

That white and gray color you guys have is a REALLY cool color combo, but man it's tough to figure out what wheel finishes go well with it. I'd be fidgeting about it too because there's not really anything obvious to pick.
I've played around with plastidip so much I love it for wheels. You should see some of the crazy stuff they're doing with it these days. Im about to do some black plastidip wheels with an pearlizer over the top.

One wheel is black, the other wis white, both are half "pearl"d.
But right now I'm rocking this color:

But you can do all sorts of crazy stuff with it:

The only reason I mention it is because with wheels that nice, it's a shame to actually dare PAINT over anything. Just throw some rubber on it and peel it off when you want and go back to stock.
They will look great in black. You are now in that horrible position of choosing which you want to be your racing wheels and which your street wheels.
It only makes sense to put the sticky rubbers on the RTS, but then you dont get to cruise around on them. It's a shame really.

Great Wheel! Light, strong, looks, and moderate pricing.
Looks great on white, too. I'm hoping the S77B will become available as S77P (polished) for red.

What are your plans for the calipers, now that they are more visible?

Re: FINALLY ordered new wheels and tires. going with big 18"
thanks but I'm keeping the Ronals lol
They are going in storage in my shed.
Today was the first day I really drove the car with the new wheels. I was in the garage at 5:30 am torquing them down with my new torque wrench. On the road at 6am, arrived at the show at 9am. This is the first time I was able to get some heat in the Mickey Thompsons, and WOW they are much better than the NT05 street tires I had. I can actually hook in second gear now without a burnout! I haven't tried 1st gear yet. Soon enough. I won't be able to drive the car tomorrow, and they are calling for MORE rain next week, so maybe next weekend I will go beat my car.
Went to 2 car shows today, and everyone loved the wheels and tires. I saw 4 people looking at the tire sizes, no telling how many people looked when I wasn't around.

Dude those are sweet! Good choice to go with blk centers they blend with the car much better. The wheels should never over compliment your ride it should all just flow together, if that makes sense? :-)

Awesome car, turned out great and love the wheels. Two questions, are you using a standard hood strut with our hood and where did you find the clear rear marker lights?

Yes I'm using standard hood struts. I got the clear markers from a member here on TGO. They have a lowered black 88-90 GTA and they live in Canada. Forget the name

Justin, did you have any fitment issues with that backspacing and tire size? Are you running spacers or just the wheels?
I love the wheels a little sad to hear they're sitting in the shed.

sorry man my wife made me PROMISE I wouldn't sell the Ronals. She loves them too
The rears are a TIGHT fit. On the passenger side I am running a factory slip on spacer that you would find with aluminum drums. Also had to beat the inner fender in at the 4 o'clock spot, just a little. Nothing too serious.
Works fine!
