my 15x8s have a 4.5" backspace, so I would guess a 6 or 6.5" backspace would be required for a 10" wide wheel.

Re: what backspace needed for 26x12x15 tires

I have 275/60/R15's on the rear, they fit very nicely, no rubbing or anything. Up front I have 165s on 15x4" rims but I'm over that look and plan to put the stock size on the front eventually.

*EDIT* I mistyped earlier on my front tire size, I corrected it.

Will a 295/50/15 fit with stock wheel wells and a stock rear end on 15x8 wheels?

No, you'd have rubbing issues. 275 is the largest you should put on an 8" rim. you need a 10" rim to safely handle a 295

OK
Would a 295 rub on a 10 inch wheel? Car has a 9 bolt and isn'tlowered.
Stock tire size is about 26 inches tall, don't want to run any taller, will make the already crappy gear ratio feel even crappier.

I just want to run the widest possible rear tire without having them stick way out of the fenders either

I'm fairly certain that it would w/out air shocks or something. I THINK there was a member on here who had those for a little while but go rid of them, RonUSMC, hopefully he chimes in.

My 275's are a 28" tire, but that doesn't bother me. (I also have a 9-bolt).

You're going to have a hard time tucking 295's in nicely, 275's are about the largest that can fit however a lot of people run 255's.
