title is a little messed up and not sure if this is where to put this. i want to see camaros with 4th gen rear ends with stock iroc rims. i am slowley working on the first camaro i ever bought and before i do all the work of pulling the rear out of my firebird which has a 4th gen rear in it. i just want to see what this set-up looks like on a camaro.
well thats the only thing that makes my firebird look halfway decent other then that its a firebird and looks like ****. very few firebirds have caught m eye and made me say wow. but i just wanted to see it on a camaro.
I always recommend people go with a 3rd gen rear in their cars. The reason is simple - wheel problems as you need a 4th gen wheel on the rear and the fronts 3rd gen wheels. Not much of a problem if you are already running 4th gen wheels with spacers all around - just don't need spacers on the rear. But if you want to run anything other than custom made to order wheels, it will not work right. The offset is about 2.2" different and that is a major problem.
not sure what the problem is i dont have custom made to order wheels or spacers and i havent had any problems. i have a set of cragar soft 8 wheels 17x9 front and back and i am fine
If you like your tires sticking out past your quarter panel a few inches, then I guess there is no problem for you. TBH most people find it distasteful, and that's putting it kindly.
doesnt look bad at all but my rims and tires stick out a little more then yours but i have aftermarket rims. it does look good with the stock rims which what i was looking for.
Ive done it on my old iroc-z bc I got a good deal on a 4th gen Moser 12 bolt, but hated how much they stick out from behind the car so ran 4th gen rims with drag radials all the time. I think they stick out around the same as what 17x11 ZR1's do, which is the reason I went with 17x9 SS Rims. They wouldnt look as bad if someone made a decent "mud guard/paint protector" Like the C6 Z06's have
Clearly there are people talking out of their ***. Mine has a 4th gen rear with the stock wheels, they come right to the edge of the quarter lip.
I do plan on getting a 12 bolt for the car, with the correct 3rd gen width, but I haven't gotten to it yet.

It's probably the angle of this shot, but it looks awkward at best.
At least somehow GM redeemed itself by having different offset wheels on the back and front when you convert to a 4th gen rear. Problem is that if you want wider wheels without spacers on all 4 corners, you are going to find slim pickens...
It's the angle, if you look straight on from the rear, the tire never sticks out farther than the bulge in the quarter. I don't have any pics from straight on from the rear, but I can take some later on if someone would like. They don't tuck very well, but they do fit. Some people dig that look, I don't. Also, like I said earlier, I haven't gotten around to ordering a different rear yet.
thats not bad like i said b4 the only car that i have seen that sticks out majorly is mine and the wheel is half way past the fender. i think you can see it in this pic i have to get better ones and my car is parked on a uneven surface.

if you go to the 6 liter eater site they have something for 4th gens that im sure could be made to fit a 3rd gen, but for the price fabbing some up may be the way to go. http://6litereaterdesigns.com/store/...=165_21_40_213
Not picking on Tartaglias car, this is just the best angle to view it I've seen. The problem I have, is you have more tire outside the GFX than inside. Just doesn't look right. Not to mention it will sling rocks and mud all over the quarters.
Same angle, same size tires, same wheels on my car. Looks like a lot more than 1" to me. (sorry, dunno how to resize the image)
And this is from a guy running 17x11 ZR1's in the back ,and my ZR1's dont even stick out as far as these 4th gen rear 3rd gen tire combos do. My rear track is only a half inch wider each side than my front track because I run 17x9.5 front ZR1's and I went through the effort to try to tuck the 17x11's.
As I've said before, I don't like it and plan on changing the rear-end. Just haven't gotten around to it yet. I still don't have most of my furniture in my house yet.
I know this is old but I referred to all these threads for my swap so I figured I'd get my pic up. I swapped in a 98 Torsen with LS1 brakes and kept my 15 inch stock wheels. The calipers don't rub/grind and the wheels don't look goofy at all - sit just fine under the fender. I'm sure the same would not be said for the wider 93-97 rear though.
EVERY fourth gen rear with 3rd gen wheels looks goofy/retarded. Every single one. You guys are insane and rationalizing your inability to install correct parts or go through the effort to swap parts over to a rear end housing that actually fits the car.
What if you put 16in IROC front wheels on the rear? Yes, that would mean having 4 fronts on the car. But it would eliminate the rear wheel backspacing right?

Whatever man. A quick $200 to increase my stopping power, move to higher gears, and add posi. New wheels would come later. Of course I'd love to throw money at my car for the "correct" setup all at once, but I'm on a budget and hoped to keep my stock wheels and their brand new tires for the time being if I could. I was just happy to report that my wheels didn't sit half a foot past the fender, and that caliper clearance wasn't an issue. The tires tuck under just fine, and it doesn't look "retarded" at all. Certainly not for a temporary thing anyways. Not to mention, the tires on your piece of **** sit further out than mine do. So what's your problem?

Consider this, not everybody has the limitless resources of time/money. I'm new to cars and I have been steered away from replacing gears by much more experienced people on here because it's not for novices. I'm also in college. I got 4th gen Firebird wheels for under $100, and a junkyard 2000 LS1 3.42 rear would run me close to the price of rear spacers alone. Considering my 87 drum rear with 2.73 gears with 180k miles needs to go, this is a good alternative to me.
I get where the opinion of it looking off comes from, but it's functional and an improvement, especially for beginners like me.
I just installed a fourth gen rear end in my car. It measured 64 5/8 from hub to hub without the brake rotors on it. My third gen measured 61 1/2 from hub to hub without the brake rotors. I have a set of c6 wheels and I will need 1 1/6 spacers to run my rims and tires without rubbing.
Has anyone found a wheel combo that had the proper backspacing and offset for the stock front and fourth gen rear? I’m really wanting to not run spacers up front and have a nice set of wheels on the car that match front and rear.
From what I recall it really depends on which 4thgen rear you swap in. A 93-97 rear is about inch or so wider per side which to me makes the car look awkward as the tires are flush or slightly poke past the fender flare. They also would rub on hard compression bumps which chewed up sidewalls since my car is lowered.Because i have an ls1 front brake conversion..my rear rims are mounted on the front with a small spacer, the rear has my front rims mounted without a spacer .Ive now switched to a S60 based on 3rdgen width and all is well where the wheels tuck in the fenders without rubbing.
98-02 ls1 rear I believe is the same or very slightly wider than a 3rdgen rear. There are tons of posts on here with exact measurements and what spacers are required depending on what wheel/tire combo you run.Biggest things to look at are what brakes you have front/rear,which rims you plan to use and factor in the backspacing needed to clear the calipers, how wide a tire are you trying to stuff.
It looks like poop! Don't do it. I didn't think about this when I invested in the repo's from hawks.. Regretting it ever since and trying to figure out the best route. I believe I am going to end up swapping the rear end back out... Don't mind my crappy bumper damage here.. Anyone have any secret ideas, let me know!
