I'm looking to buy some new wheels. I know the wheel bolt pattern is 5-475. The wheels I want to run are metric 5-120. I was told they will fit. Is this true. Don't want to waste money on wheels that don't fit. Please help.

 

Its not ideal but people do it. There are ways to refill the wheels to correct the pattern, which I figured out a few years ago and have done.

 

Another possibility is custom adapters. Depending on the offset of the wheel, you may need adapters anyway. If you do, you can get them made that bolt to your hubs and have the correct pattern on the other end.

I am running wheels in a 5x114 bolt pattern with adapters like the ones I mentioned.

 

I thought about the wheel adapters. I want to run 18-9.5 inch wheels front and back. I'm not sure how to figure out the back spacing and offset I need to run. Especially figuring in the wheel adapters. Any help would be great. Thank you.

 

First, it is important to understand what offset is. Offset tells you where the hub mounting surface of the wheel is in relation to the centerline of the wheel. So an 8" wide wheel with 0 offset will have 4" of backspacing. Positive offset moves the wheel mounting surface to the outside. So an 8" wheel with +20 offset will have approximately 4.8" of backspacing. If you're planning to run adapters to correct the bolt pattern, you will need positive offset.

The wheels I'm wanting are Enkei Raijin. 18-9.5. It says inset is 35. Wheel bolt pattern is 5-120. I'm going to go without adapters. With your knowledge what do you think for back spacing and all.

 

@Shane - Another detail to think about is how much of the wheel is to the outside (front spacing) of the axle flange. Using the 8" w/ 0 offset, there is 4" toward the center of the car (back spacing), and 4" outside the flange.

For a 9.5" wheel with 0 offset would have 4.75" on both side... The wheels would stick out 3/4" farther the the 8/0.
+35mm is close enough to 1 3/8" for this discussion. That makes your 9.5" wheel have 6 1/8" back spacing (4 3/4 + 1 3/8) and 3 3/8 front spacing (4 3/4 - 1 3/8)... moving the face of the wheel IN by 5/8". Yuck!

So... You would need a 5/8" spacer to keep the face of the wheel in the same location. (3 3/8" front spacing + 5/8" spacer = 4" front spacing to match the 8/0 wheel).
- This arrangement will also require an extra 1 1/2" clearance on the backside between the current 8/0 wheel and tire to the body.
- 5/8" spacer is problematic...
a) you would definitely need longer studs to keep sufficient lug thread engagement.
b) And, it may be too thick to avoid too much shear on the studs.
c) a & b don't really matter because you want to change the pattern from 5/4.75" (120.7) to 5x120mm and 5/8 is probably too thin to bolt on to the stock studs.

So... you can step up to a thicker adapter.
1" might be thick enough to be structurally strong enough. This will move the wheel 3/8" farther to the outside than stock. That is not entirely a bad thing. But, you do have that much tire clearance to the fender, right? Add a bonus of reducing the needed backside clearance to 1 1/8".

Playing with numbers, if you can get those wheels with an extra 3/8" offset (35mm -> 45mm), you can use the 1" adapters to achieve the same 4" front spacing.

ETA: the 18x9.5 wheels ARE available in +45 offset. Note: these have a 5x100 bolt pattern.. just note for the adapter needed.

 

Thank you. That info was very useful. Maybe I should just stick with what will fit the car correctly. I just can't seem to find the style wheel I want to put on the car in the correct bolt pattern. I like the gunmetal grey finish wheels. And I really like the 14 spoke style wheel. Any ideas on where I should look for wheels.

If you are good with 5 spoke, 17", reasonable price, and definitely bolt-on, search for posts by Paul_Huryk and the CTW wheels he sells... 17x9.5s to run 275/40/17.
