Ronal R15 Firehawk Fitment Issues

I just bought a set of the Ronal R15 Repro wheels from Summit (who gets them from Classic Industries/OER) and I am running into a fitment issue. My hope is someone here may have also run into a similar challenge who can lead me in the right direction.

The car is a 91 B4C that does not have the 1LE brakes.
Tire is size is a 275/40 17 which seems to be the preferred size for this setup.

I am running a 1/4" spacer in the front which allows for enough clearance to prevent the wheel from making contact with the tie rod and strut at the spindle.

However, when I turn the wheel to full lock the tire is making contact with the bottom corner of the fender. The dog leg section closer to the door, not the front. At this point I do not have any of the ground effects on the car so it will really rub once I have them on.

Has anyone experienced the same with these wheels that can provide insight?

Thanks in advance.

Alignment needs adjustment perhaps. Should be close but not hitting. Can you run them without the spacer?

Re: Ronal R15 Firehawk Fitment Issues

I am unclear as to how the alignment would impact the tire making contact with the fender.

Without the spacer the wheel makes contact with the tie rod and the strut just above where it bolts to the spindle. I found a few threads where people noted they were running a spacer to avoid contact at those two locations.

Have you tried a thinner spacer?

Re: Ronal R15 Firehawk Fitment Issues

The spacer that came with the Ronals originally is 7mm thick, which equals 9/32".

I have 1LE brakes with my Ronals and am using a 5mm spacer (3/16")

I hope that helps

Are you rubbing anywhere with that set up?
What size tire are you running in the front?

Does the 1LE brake setup push the wheel further away from the spindle toward the outside of the car?

Yes it does. Shouldn't need a spacer with the factory 1LE rotor. Atleast I didn't when I put them on. The rim had plenty of space between the strut and tierod

Caster will affect tire placement in the wheel well. Its worth a check.

I've run 275/40's on this setup with no rubbing. However, the factory 245/50/16's rub..... go figure.

as already stated, yes the 1LE brakes push the tires further out. If I run the 7mm spacer, I got rubbing too.

I tried not running a spacer, but the tie rod and strut started shaving weight off the wheel..... so I needed it. I would think that if you were running LS1 brakes on the front, that you wouldnt' need a spacer at all, but I could be mistaken. I haven't tried it.

So.....how did it turn out? Did you sort out the fit issues? What spacer and tire size did you settle on? Pics?

I ended up using a 1/4 spacer to clear the tie rod end.
The dust cap is modified using a hammer to flatten the end out which allows the center cap to sit flush. Without doing so I was unable to get it to sit flush with the rim.

Right now I only have one tire mounted as I wanted to test fitment. In the coming weeks when I get the other 3 mounted I will put pics up in the thread.

I know old thread- decided to add to this since my question is related instead of start another dead end thread
Jaysz28 (if your still around) or can anyone confirm the After Market R15's fitting over the 1LE brakes F&R?
I just ordered a set on eternal B/O 6-12 months and these are the brakes on the car
I'd rather know now so I could cancel - hard to imagine a 17" that wouldnt fit over 1LE brakes that fit under factory 16" or a 15" spare!!
Thanks
Oh and on the repop center cap what diameter emblem fits there?

Re: Ronal R15 Firehawk Fitment Issues

I can not speak to the repops, as I have a set of original Ronal wheels that I bought used back in '01 or '02. They clear the 1LE's just fine

For reference, the Ronal's were designed to work with the Brembo 13" brake kit that was optional on the original Firehawk cars. If your brake setup is similar (ie hub/rotor combo) you probably don't need a spacer for the Ronals. 1LE brakes are not a hub/rotor combo, so they are slimmer.

side note, my original 15" wheels that came on my base model 91 firebird cleared the 1LE brakes..... but did not clear the rear LS1 brakes. I had to use a 1/4" factory style spacer to run them until I bought tires for my firehawk wheels.

I know it's been almost a year but-
I will be putting a set over LS1 F-body brakes. That is, if the wheels ever get delivered....

Re-pop R15’s over 13” C4HDs. No spacer. Yes it is very tight.

And I too have a set that has been on order since April that I plan to put on my 92 Z...

Since April? That's approaching a full year at this point...
I'm upset and mine have 'only' been on order since October.
Also thanks for posting the pics!

Yes, for red ones through Classic Industries. Noticed all colors were not in stock except white (cream... blah). Started throwing them in my cart and it popped up “only 2 in stock, item discontinued”, so I grabbed both of them. If I bust a wheel, I will be hurting so now I got 2 spares put away just in case.... The red, black, and silver ones all “arriving soon” for the past year now. I message them occasionally to remind them I am waiting. I only get “unknown when available”.

4 piston caliper and 13" F40 rotor behind the R15. The grinding on the caliper was from when the set was on another car with different wheels.

I gave up and cancelled my OER order. 5 months having customer money without any correspondence is bad business practice. Interest-free loans aren't really my thing.

My card has not been charged. It said it would not be charged until item ships.

I ordered them through Summit(maybe a mistake) so I was charged right off the bat. Customer service said they have to contact the supplier(OER) them to cancel so I have to wait 3-5 days to see a refund.

Ah, ok. I ordered through Classic Industries. The wheels are by OER which is a Classic Industries owned brand or subsidiary. Ordered on a 35% off sale weekend too.
