Why won't my wheels fit??

Why won't my wheels fit??
I won't even go into the fact summer is almost over and i haven't yet had the IROC out of the garage (That's a different discussion for another day), but anyway...I had posted a thread a few weeks back about the 17x11 ZL1 wheels on the back. I'lll deal with that later. However, I found out finally today, putting the 9 inch wheels on the front is an issue. Not a major issue, but wondering why. I've had my chrome SS wheels since about 2003. Had them on my 86 Z till I sold the car. I put them on my 91 Z with the same spacers with no issues. Well today I took 2 of those same spacers (inch and a half) to use on the IROC on the front for my black ZR1 wheels. The wheels hit the tie rod end?? Maybe this is the wrong section to ask, but why?? Apparently there's a difference in the spindles between the 87 IROC and the 91Z?? I'd always assumed they were all the same. I have no problem getting some different spacers. But anybody know why there seems to be a difference??

Rereading your reply, I realize I may have totally misunderstood what you meant...if so, I apologize.
To clarify, the SS wheels may have a different backspacing than the ZL1 wheels, in fact, I’d almost guarantee it. That’s why the previous poster suggested you may need 2” spacers, in order to move the wheel outboard away from the spindle, and clear the tie rods.
Again, I apologize if I completely misunderstood your reply.

Yea you did apparently misread it a little, lol. Wasn't trying to be sarcastic, I'd just always assumed the SS wheels and ZR1 wheels were the same. Until yesterday I'd never actually measured the spacers on my SS wheels cause back in the day when i got them it was my understanding that 2 inch spacers were what was needed to put any 4th gen wheel on a third gen. So that's what I'd always assumed I had. No hard feelings my friend.

Re: Why won't my wheels fit??
I have a stock 85 with only 5,000 miles. I plan to take off the original rims and gaterback tires and store for the future. I was planning to get Verde OEM rims 17x8 but find they do not differentiate between front and rear as per the originals. I want to avoid the use of spacers. I am now thinking I should search for an original rims and have them refinished. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
