17 Inch Tires
I have an 82 camaro Z/28 just repainted a mad blue with beige/gold lower parts where it was silver originally,
it looks beautifull.
Looking at the 17x7 front and 17x9 rear wheels from American Racing VN527
having a bit of trouble finding same brand tyres front, rear,
looking around 255 45 rear and 225 45,i want to fill the fenders up and have the car is lowered 1 1/2 and been running 215 70 15 and 255 60 15,s
i want more rim and less tyre height
it looks beautifull.

Re: 17 Inch Tires
I would run a square setup if possible. Meaning, run the same size wheel and tire on all four corners. If you run 17x9 wheel a 275 wide tire is what you want to shop for. The aspect ratio will determine sidewall height and thus overall diameter of the tire.
Example: (Units in inches)
275/40/17 = 4.33" Sidewall height and 25.66" overall diameter.
275/45/17 = 4.87" Sidewall height and 26.74" overall diameter.
Remember, even though a tire will be advertised as a 275 width, that number will vary slightly due to the aspect ratio. So look at the spec page of the manufacturer.

Re: 17 Inch Tires
Hello Mate
I am in Australia and my car has had since 1986 been Right hand drive and it has a few steering changes that wont allow big fat tyres on the front and while reverse parking the front tires become a problem.
The limit i can run on the front is 225/235.
but 26,,to, 26 1/2 inch is about where i am aiming
I dont see these cars here anymore and you guys in America are my guiding light so to speak.
thanks mate

Re: 17 Inch Tires
I am not familiar with the right hand drive cars but aren't the steering components just a mirror image of left hand drive? All the major parts are inside the two shock towers. What parts of the suspension are limiting you?

Re: 17 Inch Tires
The angle of the front wheels camber change at around 3/4 lock left or right and the wheels no longer stay completely upright and everything goes off centre, to keep the thing turning correct in car parks, tight situations or reverse parking i found over the 22 years i have this car, to keep big tires off the front. I had this car to engineers, front end specialists and they say some mercedes benze does the same thing..
Car drives straight, holds perfect on the road, and wheel allings perfect.

Re: 17 Inch Tires
I think its more a case of your older steering box had different stops than found in later thirdgens.
I run 275/40/17's all around on my GTA and yes, it does rub the inner fender liner. Mostly this is because I think my front track is too wide. The spacers needed to run the 4th gen wheels and the Corvette brake swap have pushed the track width too wide. One day I need to measure correctly and get the correct width spacers made.
