Have a 1983 Z28 Camaro with stock rear and 3.73 gears and a 327 motor in it, I want to run 295/50-15 tires on rear without mods, can this be done on a 15 x 8 or 15 x 10 rim with what backspacing so that the tire doesn't stick out past the outer wheelwell lip

 

I have 315/35/17 on the back of mine. I haven't rolled the fenders yet, but I will as I am getting very slight cutting on the edge of the tread. I have custom offset 10" wheels on back. With the right offset you can do it easily.

 

What backspacing it needed for use of 295/50-15 tires on either a 15 x10 rim or 15 x 8 rim?

 

I'll have to remove one of my wheels and figure out the backspacing for you, can try to do it this weekend.

295 is too big in my opinion for 8 inch rims. You should use 9 or 10s.

I have 285 on 9" wide rims at 0 offset and they don't stick out past. I would do 10" wide over 8" for sure. For offset you should be good between 0 and about 15.

 

Here's what 295/50r15s looks like on a 8" wheel. A friend had this set and let me take them for a spin. Turned out I did not have the right BS for them so I went back to my old set.The 295s had 10.2" of tread on the ground, got to love that. I talked to my tire guy and he said 5.50 BS on that wheel and the bulge would be flush with the fender flair.You still might want to get that verified .
