18x9.5 wheel fitment (backspace) help

Car details: 85 sport coupe lg4 700r4

Hey group. So I've searched and searched throughout the forum and I can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for.

Wheels are 18x9.5 , 6.63BS(35MM) , 72.6 Bore

Read somewhere that the offset is 0mm front, and 15mm rear? So a 35mm spacer, and a 20mm spacer would be needed?

I have found a hub adapter.

Also read that 275/35 Front, and 285/35 Rear tires work on 18x9.5

Just bought the car, and my tires are dry rotted. I wanna do wheels, tires, lowering springs, bigger brake upgrade on the front, and then maybe the 9 bolt posi trac disc brake rear end.

Just wanting to verify that the more backspace is okay, and i can just buy spacers to push wheels to outer fender.

Again, I've searched and searched, if I would've found my answer, I wouldn't be asking.

thanks.

Re: 18x9.5 wheel fitment (backspace) help

After more reading, I’ve seen that I should use 2” spacers all around. And these spacers would be the 5x4.75 to 5x120mm adapters (which would save even more headache).

but here’s a bump, and here’s the adapters I’ve found. (2in and 1.5in available)

Like I said above, I’ve found posts very similar, but the info dropped and the post died due to other members hi-jacking.

thanks.

Most thirdgen wheels (except for the 16" wheels) ran 0mm offset on all four corners. If I were you, I'd go with your number of 35mm adapters, and that'll put your wheels at a 0mm offset on all four. Why GM put that +16mm on rear 16" wheels is a matter of speculation and debate, but "most" people running aftermarket wheels and tires simply consider stock to be 0mm, and then measure/buy from there. Look at all the repop wheels being sold for these cars...all the 17" IROCs and Firehawks, and GTAs....all are 0mm offset.

You're correct on tires.

You can only go "so thin" on adapters before it becomes a safety issue. Not sure how thin is too thin. If you stepped up to a 1.5"/50mm out back, instead of a 1.37"/35mm it'd be no problem. Up front, I don't know if 1.5"/50mm would be to much. They stick out farther about .25", but whether or not that'll cause rubbing, I don't know. Stock brakes would probably work, but with a big brake kit, they tend to move you out a hair, so my guess is you'd have slight rubbing. Probably wouldn't be too bad, but honestly there's just no way to be 100% how bad it'll rub, and whether or not it's acceptable to you. Maybe consider a 265mm tire?

thanks for the information and verification that my research was worth it haha.

I did purchase the wheels, and most likely I’ll do the 1.5” adapter (5x4.75 - 5x120mm)((although I read that 5x120mm fit fine)). Like I said, I still need the spacer, so I might as well buy the adapter so the bolt pattern is “correct”.

I might even change up the tires so they aren’t staggered. I wanna be able to rotate all 4 for longevity. So I’ll do a bit more reading and research on that. If I have to roll and massage fender wells I will.

I’ll keep this thread updated once wheels arrive, and which spacer I use/need.

as I stated, there was a thread with good info on it, but another member hi-jacked the post and therefore post died with no update from OP.

thanks again Abubaca!
