Beginning to make the frame for the Aeromotive 15 gallon fuel cell.

Tubing is 1" x 1" x 1/8" thick. Welded all with my cheap little flux core welder.

The cell is spaced away from the metal tubes with 1/16" thick rubber adhesive tape. This tape will eventually line the frame so there is no cell to frame contact.

Throw back to the past. On the right is my old fuel cell cage made from angle iron. It worked, but I never liked how flimsy it was, and how the metal frame contacted the aluminum cell.

First cell test fit. Pretty happy with it consodering I dont have a fabrication table or even a band saw. Made on the garage floor with a $120 welder.

Setting up threaded bungs for rosette welds. Ended up making the holes a bit larger.

Noticed the removal portion of the frame that will hold fuel cell cage got way to close to the exhaust over axle tubess. Simple fix was to turn that close section into a mitered corner. This is the setup just before tack welding.

Rosette welds were done with the setup on the car to ensure all the minor angles needed are locked in. Welding upside down sucks.

Welding complete. 3 bolts complete the frame install. 3 more bolts hold the cage to the frame. (All 3/8" grade 8 flanged hex head)

Next thing to tackle is the clearance bumps for the plumbing. Lot more design work needed here. This is just hacked up to get the cell into the car. I work alone so i was using those straps, plus a jack to pull and push the cell into place

Making pumps in the floor for each line wasnt practical since the entire cell shifts an inch right and back when being installed, so clearnace would have been a nightmare. New approach is an entire zone lifted 2.5" or maybe 3" to house all the line connections. The billet fuel door will be mounted to yhe bump.

Anyways, the feed, return and bulkhead are all fabricated. Next is the breathers. Aftter that I can finally get back to sheet metal work and finish this lifted area.
