help finding correct starting bin
Hi all,
i have sort of a stupid question.
i am going to be switching my 90 TBI manual, to SD TPI, and i know to do this i will be needing a new chip with at least vats disabled. so i talked with a guy that i know who has all the burning equip. and he is going to burn me a prom so that i can at least start my car and i can go from there. my question is what bin should i send him to start with? i searched and got a little info (i think anyway, this all still sorta confuses me) and from what i could tell i think i might need the ANHT bin???? as close as i could find was a file called anht 8d.bin does that sound right for a starting point?
the car is a 305 manual with 3.08 gears.
Thanks in advance for the help
John

You need to go to www.diy-efi.org and check out the bins for the 1227730 (the ECM used on F-body cars). There are a number of Bins there and you need to find one for an F-body. There are issues in using Vette Bins for F-body cars with SD.
If your car was an automatic you'd just use the AUJP. But since your's is a manual you'll need to check the bins for a "5-speed".
Use the BCC check program to check the Bins. Here is a link to the BCC

There are all the "hints" you need to find what you need.

From one of Glenns hints above you should have also gathered that you need to change the ecm. I only say that cause you say that you need a new prom with at least vats disabled (which I don't know why) but no mention of a new ecm.
For a manual trans SD chip I like AXCN, last of the L98 Vette bins.
Only downside is you have to turn off the oil temp sensor flag but that's easily done with Tunercat.
I ran ARFP ('90 Vette, manual trans) for a year and had no problems, upgraded to AXCN ('91 Vette, manual trans) last week just for kicks and it cleared up an annoying exhaust pop when I shifted. Same deal with the oil temp sensor bit, gotta disable it or it will set the Check Eng light after a few minutes of driving.

The biggest problem I've seen is more "driveability" like that "popping" on an upshift you mentioned when you "mix them". With a lot of tuning (which most of us guys end up doing) you will most likely address the driveability issues. But sometimes, you just can't seem to get rid of it...at which point, starting from a solid base (F-body Bin for 7730 and Vette Bin for 7727) often fixes it.

Thanks alot guys. i think i found the one i needed. it was axxd... if someone would verify that is the right one for me i would rest easier though
BTW, i new that i needed a new ECU, i am getting all the stuff from a donor car, TPI, harness, ECU, ect, ect. but it is coming from and auto car, so i wanted to get the manual bin.
about the vats... i was under the impresion that because the chances are that the resistor in my key now will probably not work with the settings in the new computer , that i had to disable vats on the new setup. am i wrong in that?

And yes, I've tuned the snot out of the VE and spark tables.

Did you ever try running a SD 305 5-speed bin? That is what we found worked best on a buddy with a SD 350 w/5-speed. Kevin91Z also used a variation of his 305 5-speed Bin when he swapped his 305 for a 350.
I wonder what the Firehawk used?
