Corvette independent rear transplant to fbdy?
Corvette independent rear transplant to fbdy?
I have been thinking with this Irco i bought about possibly putting a corvette rear suspension from a 84-96 vette into the back of this 90 iroc. I know this is obviously not a "bolt-in" project but has anyone done it? Is the rear of the car wide enough for the rear or will i have to shorten the half-shafts in the vette rear? Any input is appreciated.
Thanks

Pontiac did this exercise on the twin turbo Trans Am/Firefox car.
The engineers had to do some major work to install it and you will lose about 80% of your rear hatch room. It can be done, but it is a major project.

yeah after looking at the other post i have decided that this maybe a bit of too much a pain in the *** to attempt, so i guess my next question is who makes a good coil over kit?

Not only do you basically lose your rear hatch, but your gas tank too. They had to fit the twin turbo firefox with a fuel cell. I think the fuel cell could hold 5 gallons max. Not much room for travel in a car like that.

Read this thread, at the bottom there is some nice pictures of an IRS installed in a thirdgen car and you don't have to move the gas tank anywhere else.

Maybe a dumb question, but what exactly are the functional improvements in driving gained by having an IRS vs. the solid??
Second, f-bodies have the track bar, torque arm, LCA's, and a solid rear axle. With an IRS, which of these components are removed AND which new components are added??
Excuse my ignorance

If you go to all that trouble why not use a Jag rear, much better then even the Vette, not sure which but the design of where they positioned things allowed for less sprung weight and a better ride.
but all in all money is money and if you have that you can do anything

I agree with Draker. Speed = Money.
How fast do you want to go?$?$?$?
As much as I love cars, that's one thing I hate about racing....
the rich man wins.
At least ball sports (as much as I hate it) is based on physical ability.
