OEM Spring Rates

Anyone got a link to a list of OEM F-Body spring rates?

I've got a '86 Fbird originally equipped with a V6 and I'm putting in Eibach springs, 700 lb/in front and 80-137 rear.

I'm curious about how the rates on the stock stuff compare, I believe IROCs came with about 700 lb/in front.

I also think think that V6 Camaros came with taller, softer springs than the V6 Firebirds. They seem to sit higher and squat/dive more.

700? Get the printed number off of the spring itself and well go from there.

As for Eibach:
The Sportline springs are a linear rate spring at a 360 inlb rating.

The Pro's are a progressive rate spring at around 375-585.

Where are you getting a 700lb number?

As for stock spring rates in the front suspension, the non-Iroc/1LE/WS6 cars had a rate of around 325 inlbs. The Iroc/1LE/WS6 cars had a rate of around 500 inlbs.

Let us know on the part number of the spring or give me the kit part number and we'll figure it out from there.

Stock springs and their rates are a bunch of garbage. Who cares.

The springs I have in my 83 are Moog, I can't recall the number, the rate is something just over 700 lbs/in IIRC.

I still dont understand the way our springs are set up. 715/170, 610/130, 800/175....etc. Whats up wiht the huge difference? I understand the back end is lighter and waht not but damn. I would think that maybe 800/400 or 800/500 would be alot better. Oh well imma order new rear springs for my coil overs. Probably get like 500lbs. See how that does. (since at each front wheel our cars weight like 1000 and at each back wheel it weights like 675....why have 200 less in the front...yet 500 less in the back O_o?)

In a nutshell, the back end is easier to control with softer springs. I know a couple autocrossers who don't change the rear springs even though springs are free for the class they run in.

yea i guess your right...a semi soft rear would help keep it gripping the course instead of spinning the tires...but considering I drift. Which is sliding the car around turns I would think maybe in my situation it would be better with stiffer rears.

The fronts aren't 1" of spring travel for 1" of car motion; it's considerably less than that. Probably close to 3:1 car movement to spring compression, if you look at the mechanical advantage the wheel has on the spring. The rears on the other hand are 1:1.

500 lb/in springs in the rear of these cars would be functionally indistinguishable from no springs at all. I don't think you'd ever want to go higher than about 300 lb/in.

I e-mailed Eibach support with their part number from the box. Here's their reply:

Thanks for your interest in Eibach Springs. In regards to your
question about the rate of the springs for the 4.0138. The rates are as followed 700 for the front and 80-137 for the rear. I hope that this information will be of some use to you. Thanks for your patience in this matter.
