StealthRam- Can it be whacked to fit?

Alright- here's the scoop from the FAQs:

"Q) Will the Stealthram clear my stock hood?

A) The Stealthram is approximately 2 inches taller than the factory TPI system. It will not fit under the factory Corvette (C4) hood, but it will fit under the factory thirdgen Camaro/Firebird hood with some clearancing. If you are not comfortable with cutting/denting your hood and you do not desire to purchase a new fiberglass hood for your vehicle, then you should look at other options such as the Miniram or Super Ram. "
---------------
To anyone who has actually seen one in person: Can the stack be cut for the 2" and/or plenum cut and reformed? Or is it just going to mess the whole thing up.

Looking for options beside the Super and Mini Rams for a vette.

Gees, why the heck didn't Holley think about this a little more. They could offered a shorty version or something. Thanks in advance.

I have one on my car now. The lower intake could easily be milled about 3/4 of an inch. I'm not sure about any more than that. The ports would start to not line up. 2 inches would probably be overkill... but anything can be done if you have the $$ to pay for the machinework...

Well If I had unlimited funds, I wouldn't even be thinking about doing this mod! I'm doing the work myself.

I'm changing heads. Current mods on my 90 L98 are setup for 350ci torque. I want to do "fast burns" to match my "hot cam" which means I need to shorten the intake to make the package work. It's going to be weird shifting at 6500 instead of 5350. Oops-I need a new tach. Mine only goes to 6k!

I wonder how much I could grind off the top?

Thanks for the input.

well you could always Fab up your own upper like, grumpyvette I believe that's his name, he has a vette, do a search on this board it put it on there a few months ago. Cause the Pleumn of the Steath Ram is just a big box, he made it out of Plastic or sheetmetal, or something like that to clear his hood. He posted some pics also.

The current version of the Stealth Ram base doesn't fit Vortec/Fast Burn heads. Intake ports are too low. Even if you get the heads drilled to fit the bolt pattern, the intake ports won't line up with the head ports at all.

Darn shame, too...FastBurns with this intake would whip some serious azz.

That's what I figured. I also wouldn't have to worry about TPIS fit and finish. If ya know what I mean.

Im pretty sure a LT4 intake will work with fastburns, I wonder if it can be modded like an Lt1.

What kinda $$$ can you get a LT4 setup for? They make a Miniram made specifically for Vortec/Fastburn applications, which might not be too much more than the LT4 setup...

I think a modded LT4 setup will be much cheaper than the minirams $900 tag.

heres pics on that old post, your better off not touching the runners becuase of fuel rail clearance problems that youll cause, but building a custom plenum is easily done.

stealth ram clone that fits under a vette hood! this is what holley should be building but with the G.M. throttle body off-set to the drivers side for clearance

great work!!! and only 8.7" tall so it will fit under a vettes hood too! HOLLEY OUGHT TO MAKE THESE BUT WITH THE STOCK VETTE THROTTLE BODY OFF-SET TO THE DRIVER SIDE FOR EASY CLEARANCE for those of you wanting to get a stealth ram but not wanting to mod the hood for clearance , you could just buy the base and fuel rails from holley and make a similar plenum, the pictures show theres not alot involved if all the fuel rail and injector mounting work is already done by holley basically a box with a few holes for the runner entrances and throttle body mounting precisely located and cut/drilled an tapped will do the trick! for even an easier mod that RACING needed to do! BTW LOVE THAT LEXAN TOP PLATE

Contrary to what has been said on this board, there are clearance issues with the top of the (right front) plenum & the Camaro hood. The ID plate screw on the TB digs into the underside of the hood. An RS hood without the louver indent may be ok. Making the plenum wider would cause interference the the Holley fuel rails.

Can someone who knows more than me about runner length engineering tell me what effects would be realized if the hsr base was milled off a half inch or so?

if you can still get it to fit too the plenum, seal correctly to the runners and not interfear with the fuel rails.(remember the throttle body and IAC valve must clear the water neck) the only major change will be the average effective rpm range going a few hundred rpm higher

Thanks for the info grumpy...you of all people would be knowledgable on the subject! I have everything put together on the stand. I will see if it is even possible to clear the water neck, rails, etc this evening.

edit: Oh, do you think my clearance is going to be even worse because of the lingenfelter 58mm tb? It seems to have a lot more material than the stock tb, but I just havent seen the hsr in person in a car to know where it contacts the hood.

Thanks Ricktpi...
Would milling off the fins solve the problem?
