what is teh difference from a ls1 and ls6?

what is teh difference from a ls1 and ls6?

Hey,

Just wondering what the differences are.

I know the ls6 as less ci then the ls1. I know it has a differen intake manifold then the ls1 even though they look the same.

What is different about the blocks?

Here I believe the LS6 has a different cam, the flow better, and the valvetrain is different.

From: Under the hood.
The intake manifold is a little different. It flows a little bit more and has no EGR. The cam is also slightly larger. The valvetrain is the same as an LS1.

The manifold on the LS6 is the same as the 01-present LS1's. The valvetrain is different too. I believe the valves in the heads are different.

First, LS6 does not have less c.i., they are the exact same block. Only differences are intake, cam, and heads. As derfrank said, Ls1's from 01 up have the LS6 manifold.

ummm..

if you read the specs on teh ls6 in the z06 it has something like 337 or something around there for ic. I am not saying the block is a smaller block. It is probably a different crank shaft that is destroked.

The whole short block is the same as an LS1 (that means the crank too). The 98-00 f-bodies had a different intake but 01- present LS1's have the LS6 intake. The LS6 heads and cam are slightly bigger.

Umm...

I am pretty sure the ls6 has less ci. I know I have read it a bunch of places. Can't seem to find them online though.

LS1 vs LS6

There are minor differences in the oiling systems, and the block actually has some minor inprovements over the LS1 for reliablity, but none are really power producive. Bore and stroke are identical, there must have been a typo on your resource.

The LS6 heads are different, ports and combustion chambers are slightly upgraded. Cam is a little bigger in LS6, and as stated correctly, all LS1's from 01-on have the LS6 style intake.

The exhaust and intake was also changed on the later Z06 cars, as was the MAF sensor. Many minor changes resulted in a major power improvement. Naturally, the computer was recalibrated for this, too.

To answer your question, as I think it relates here, primarily heads, cam MAF and intake.

Yes, the LS1 and LS6 have the same CI of displacement, 346.

I know what I was thinking now. I must have said 346 and I automaticlly thought the ls1 was 350.

Also I believe the new vette LS1's 02?03? have hollow stem valves for a lighter valvetrain helps make the 400hp

I thought only the LS6 had the hollow valve stems...I may be wrong, however.

that is right only on the Z06 so yes it would be the LS6
