Why can't I get the motor mounts off?

I bought a new set of motor mounts because I was gonna go ahead and swap them when I swapped motors just for good measure. I tried to unbolt them and the bolt just spins...whats up?

Exactly, the mounts have both a nut and a bolt for every contact. Sucks and its a big PITA.

Have fun.

they are a b*tch. GM forgot to make a small hole in the crossmember to put a socket on the bolt. you have to shove a wrench in an opening on the member..and try to reach the bottom bolts while trying not to lose the nut in the hole (that doesnt sound right, exuse my gutter mind?). its tuff

I did it. Took 2 people and 6 hours. Was it worth it? Hell yeah.
I replaced mine with Energy suspension P.U. (because I cant spell poly Uerethane) motor mounts...

The difference? Now my engine doesnt hit the hood when I gun it. and now i can really feel the engine. and now it sits where it should. In my opinion, The stock rubber is crap, it sags, breaks easy, cant take torque, its micshy, and lets your engine move around too much. 'nuff said.

Haven't looked too much at mine on how exactly they work, but if you are replacing them, can't you just cut these bolts off?

Not sure that's a good thing...

You can get to the nuts at the control arm attachment point with a 15mm swivel socket and a 3/8" extention. Keep a magnet on a stick to fish the nuts out when they fall into the crossmember. Do it when you are fresh (AM after a cup of coffee) because it requires a certain degree of patitence, not all of us have.

Agreed. I replaced both of mine in about an hour and a half. I don't see why everyone has so much trouble with these.

i removed my control arms while doing my springs and just welded the nuts to the chassis. Before that i replaced them with the aformentioned swivels and magnets..

please note an impact gun makes tightening them easier!

Ah memories. In all honesty you should go ahead and change them now while the motor is out, because if your motor is tapping on the hood in a year from now, you'll be sorry. First time I changed one of mine, it took near two hours of fumbling around with swivel sockets and extensions and such. I can now change them in about 10 minutes per side. My secret? Being a girl, I've got tiny little hands and wrists, and I just crammed my hand, with a wrench, through that tiny gap between the A-arm and the k-member. Of course that's not really an option for most of you guys. I've also heard that you can buy a cheapo wrench and bend it to a certain angle so you can get at that one PITA nut.
